  1. Thank you for refreshing my memory John and Gerald - JK
  2. Some time ago I was reading an article about andirons, as to what (on some) a half basket was for on the top of the upright. The baskets are about the size of a softball. Does anyone have any info on this? I cannot remember where I read about this and I since received a pare that were rescued from a job site dumpster. When people ask what they were for - I'd like to tell them the real use and not have to come up with some interesting fibs LOL. Thanks JK

  5. You do not need all that much tension on the wire in the drive rolls. To much pressure smashes the wire and shears off small particles of the wire and clogs the gun liner. You just need enough pressure to feed the wire without slipping - that's it. - JK
  6. I have built 2 Kinyon style air hammers - on the top plate (IIRC it was a 3/4" plate) I did not have machining capabilities or a drill bit big enough for the cylinder rod pass through. What I did use and it worked just fine (a little slower but it worked) was a hole saw at slow rpm with coolant. Done deal and cheaper than buying a huge drill bit. - JK
  7. These multi-layered panels I made for a house that was featured in a home show in Stillwater Minnesota. They are aluminum multi-layered beveled panels for accents on the upper cabinet door of the kitchen. I did a 3 color distressed look finish w/ a clear coat.

  9. Yes Aaron - also Thanks - I found a pic of my #3 hand blower on pps 308 ish. In the process of replacing all the wood - feet rotted off. Will post pics when done. - JK
  10. Good points by everyone - one other variable which may or may not be involved is the age and wear on an existing hammer. New hammers should work great, older ones have as much control as possible only related to maintenance / use.
  11. I had a stink around my forge last year and after taking the plug out of the chimney opening (to keep the heat in the shop), I found a duck had fell down and died in there - very stinky!!!! - JK

    hand railing

20 running feet of compound curved handrailing - it started out at the top with a large radius and as it went down the steps it got tighter. forged railcap w/ a groove down each side like a concave router groove. this railing was built in the shop as one piece then installed.

  16. This is a picture of the 1903 Hawkeye helve hammer all but done, I just need to make the die keys and then it's ready for running with a motor I have that is a 1937 IH water hopper cooled throttle governed gas engine.
  17. Jimmy - I sure hope things get lots better for you soon - glad to hear you pulled through this far for what happened. Get well Soon - Jeremy K
  18. This is a picture of a Peter Wright 165lb anvil I repaired the summer of 2007 while I visited Jr Strasil. I used MG 740 welding rod to build up the corners and around the hardy hole.

  21. When the drill press is not in use the "key" gets hand tightened "in" the drill chuck. During the use of the drill press the key gets put in my pocket so I can find it and so it is out of the way. I don't like strings/things hanging from the drill press because it could be a potential hazard. - JK

    forged sample

This started as a 1/2 x 1/2 inch square, 6 inches long. Total forged length is 7-1/2 inches. The leaf was made on one end and a 6 inch taper on the other. Then it was folded over and forge welded and drawn out for the scroll loop.
  23. Jen - Sorry for your loss. Some pictures of the power hammer from different views would help greatly in helping with your request. - JK
  24. Imagedude - you have yourself a nice assortment of tooling there - JK
