  1. I just gotta add a note here. If your a dem or rep or hawk or dove. who's gonna clean up all that crap on the floor. We elect the partys choice not the real joe six pack. Best and easiest way to become a millionare is get elected to govt office. Why do we have Vets sleeping across from the white house? in the 60s I was proud to serve. Then we got spit on and s--t on by our own govt. How many wars(spell that police actions) are ya gonna support. Have been in situations where you are not allowed to have ammo or need permission from a high ranking officer who is fishing from his personal boat. Yeh I was there picking up burned bodys. Who weren't there. Am I bitter ya bet your butt I am. Semper Fi means nothing to our elected officals. Ken.
  2. Ya can also make nice openers from a 1/2 horseshoe. Taper the cut(middle)part flatten and curl. Ken.
  3. Dave, Frosty said it better than I did. I was off a little in that my shop(welding or smithing) the labor charge has been $50 hr. I allow the client to provide material if they chose(only clean and new) bring crap and they pay for clean up. I have a client who buys trashed farm equip cheap.Had one large piece required $200 in materials and 18 hrs travel and labor. Total $1100 I billed him $800(good friend and client) He asked me to cut the bill in half. (Man makes more in a mounth than I make in a yr) Lets see $200 for 18 hrs work. He gets $400 an hr for consulting. Go figure. One of my local guild members charges $80-100 per hr for yard art. Put a nose 4legs 2ears and a tail on a grill tank add 2 wings ya get a flying pig for $125. Don't want to see ya at 65 yrs old looking at working till ya drop. Ken.
  4. Bob, I used to do it that way. Still have the wood stove, oil lamps and the colman gear. gas lanterns and stove.Hauled water from the creek(200yds)for the john(for a week)Next storm got a 5KW colman for the house and up graded the 4KW welder/gen for a 7 KW Lincoln to run the shop. Looking for a propane(bigger)to run off the 100lb forge tanks. Can't retire at 65 but I stay warm, clean and seewhat I am hitting. Ken. (Old Conn yankee now in the WNC mtns)
  5. Dave, Great job just waaay to cheap. In order to last ya gotta have a hourly min. Overhead(coal/gas electric/meterals/rent)( I know your on the farm)Ya should be making atleast $50 per hr. Here in WNC I see fireplace sets in gallerys at $650 If the workmanship is better it ain't by much. Your at less than $12 per hr. Remember its easier to go down in price than up. Ken.
  6. I would agree with everything exceot the wood wedge. With a 177lb anviland being hammered on I think the wood would crush quickly. Do a steel shim under the anvil or under the front leg. Ken.
  7. Don't know what to say about that except. My 142 has a 1" hardy and my older 88 has a 3/4. Mayby the last model was differant? Ken.
  8. Looks like to me. Pieces from 2 differant anvils. Main part broken at the step. Other piece has a section of top plate. Or is it oldtimers again? Time to clean up the dog lot again. Lotsa Dino poop there. Ken.
  9. Phil, Better than mine. Bought a 36" shear old guy said 1200-1500 lbs Arrived 700miles later is 3400lbs no castors just 6X6 rubber pads. Had to move that one by myself by hand. Moved it 12 feet across a brushed concrete floor Then found out it was a 16ga not a 10ga. Cost for a wrecker to get it outside and to the scrap yard would be a loss. Ken.
  10. How about setting the can on or close to the forge? Ken.
  11. Son I see your a fellow(past tense) new england yankee. I was and still am a griller. Had a space under roof in Conn. OK for standing inside watching the grill. Wouldn't have wanted to stand out there with the wind blowing and 20 inches of snow on the ground. Close it in or move south. Too xxxx hard to dig ya a hole inna ground if ya freeze out there. This old yankee went to FL for 20 yrs Now backin the Mtns 1/2 way back. Ken.
  12. Crap what was I thinking. Put a 3 ft bar thru the handles. A big cresent on the valve and off it came. Should I take the next one to the refiller? LOL I will advise this. Even after standing with the valve removed and the tank filled with soapy water(2 days).Passing a flame across the hole brought a woosh and flame. if ya can pump argon or car exhaust into the tank first. Your laundry will thank ya. Yrs ago had a 55 gal drum used for coca cola extract light off after cutting 15 inchs, Ya ain't lived till ya have had a sportster tank go 20 ft in the air on a colume of fire. Ya may survive but your shorts night not. Just be careful with any tanks/drums or sealed tubes. Ken.
  13. Son thats what the control is about. Foot or finger depending on your rig shouldn't have to turn it down just less pedal or finger. I use 040 on low range. 062 on second range.3/32 on 3rd and 1/8+ on high. the dry rig is a backup I need the wet one over 200 amps. Savesa little on the gas also. Ken.
  14. Perhaps Yodas light saber. Cut down of course. Saw a KBar dunked in liquid nitrogen once it was cooool till he dropped it on the concrete. (talk about quench shock) Ken.
  15. Did wonder about the retouch enough. For all of a nanosec.Says it all. Ken.
  16. Larry, Just gotta yank your chain on this one Clean? edge perhaps how about all tha chips flying every where? Had a guy in the shop 20 feet away cutting 1/2 in. Carbide tip came off. He didn't even know it. Sounded like just like a 7.62 round going past my head and thru the metal wall.Is your CNC gas or plasma? If I want easy clean and fast it goes on the plasma table. Water table and exhaust fan keep it clean. Chair inna office (watching thru the window) makes it easy and CNC plasma makes it quick. Being in the other room means no noise and no flying debries.Best part is at 65+ I don't have to climb on it or streeech. Ken.
  17. Yep said in the listing On Off and thermostat(on at 105 off at a preset) Ken.
  18. Are ya sure their cast iron? Just sounds strange to have a "cutter blade" rivited to a "little CI arm" Seems like any impact on the cutter would snap a little cast arm. Ken.
  19. just my 2 cents worth. You are a master when all of your peers say you are. If your peers are a 3 then you are a 3+. I have been an aircraft welder. a fabricator, blacksmith, driver, shooter. Who among ya gonna judge what i do. I am a jack of all trades master of none. Might be who knows? ken.
  20. Looks to have faint markings in pic #3. Clean more there. Ken
  21. I started out doing Ti with a foot pedal(plasma arc). Then 18 yrs doing aluminum(piece work)with a start(micro) switch. Now using a Miller 330 AB/P with a Miller foot pedal and a start switch. Try thin wall alum tubing at 200+ amps without any amp control. Ken.
  22. Might be P&O (pickled and oiled) New it's dripping wet Old it's brownish and stinks when welded or heated. Ken.
  23. Don't think dot has changed in 40 yrs. Well they now say if your pot falls off the seat you should replace it due to damage. Ken.
  24. Jim, only the later HF russians had the diamond hardy. Shape isn't quite right for a HF either. Ken.
  25. Al, kudos to ya mate. Ya just don't fool with the elastics. Whats next telling ya what to wear. Oh those are no good for smithing.lol Ken.
