  2. Try Blackhawk. Was not a maker just a store brand. Will check AIA when I get home.
  3. It is apparent nobody here grew up with a top mount GE fridge. Ya all younger than 40? last I checked the old GE was still keeping the beer cold after about 80 yrs and rolling down a 40ft driveway and hitting a old oak tree. How many flathead motors or front loaders have ya delt with? Try this for a motto The diffacult is 1 hour service is normal. the impossible is slightly longer. Do what ya can with what ya got and that is the best you are gonna do. We are not gonna be a Simmonds or Whitacare or whoever. We can't be the best but we can be the best we can. Ken.
  4. And I thought my 37 lb london pattern track anvil was neat and worth about a $100 bucks. Dang now I will have to ask a grand for it. How mayy offer do I hear? Ken.
  5. Hi Igor, Was up there in May didn,t have time to stop by.Might get up again in Sept. My first was a mint 100lb vulcan. It sold to a local smith for $200. Is the PW still holding up the pool? The boys must be getting big by now. Ken.
  6. jerry, Where ya from? I am an old collinsville hand. I can tell ya a chromed anvil ain't worth spit. Chrome will pit split and flake. This old Conn yankee been smithing for yrs says no chrome. weld and dress if able or leave it alone. Ken.
  7. The A prefex started in 1918 and used till the end in 1925. AIA pg 303 Ken.
  8. Yep 1/2 of an old anvil/vise tool. Usually broken and or missing the vise part. Good for garden art not much else. Ken.
  9. Acoarding to my AIA it was made in 1920. Don't worry about the face plate as it is platless. Solid tool steel from the waist up. I have a 142 lber just like it. It's my favorite. Ken.
  10. Hey Bent, My thoughts exactly. Found a guy who shrunk a Kinyon to bench size. Sadly no info on how to. Would love to have a small portable hammer. Roll it out when needed roll it ina corner when not. Wish ya well my bro. 12 yrs ago the bone man said " hope ya have a deskjob" Told him "I work with hot iron" He said ya won't last a yr. For me it's mind (and burbon) over matter. Re met a guy today say's "I got metal poisoning from 3 yrs inna shop" Told him I spent 40yrs heating and beating and still going hard. 15 yrs ago Doc said DON'T even pick up a pencil. Today I Removed a 300+ lb mower. Weldid it and reinstaled it. Works great. I have every intention of dieing doing what makes me happy. Remember pain tells ya ya are alive. pain is good. Uncle Sam taught me that. K
  11. Converted to what? And why. A good longship,Shield, sword and axe and this old swendska will sirvive Course a M2 or a M60 would help. BTW my uncle was Thor. K
  12. Oh Yea. Been a rso at a few clubs. Cool When a hot dogger sets a steel plate ajacent to the pistol range. Spraying 223 or 45s across the 50 unit pistol range. Not cool when I offered to put one in his head if one more of his came close to my 7 yr old. He complained was ordered off. Shoot lots,Shoot streight and safe. the life ya may save may be your kid. Ya may know where the slug hits at 300yds. Where do it go from there? a 150gr slug a long way off still hurts. Don't ask
  13. Ya guessrd it right. Will be sending a PM with local guild info. Ken.
  14. Just a note, 1908 and later H-Bs are solid tool steel from the waist up. Mine is 1913. Ken.
  15. Go ahead son. If it was 230lb we might have to fight over it. Holding out for a big one now. Ken.
  16. Lots of stuff turns up there. Just gotta be there real early.Made a clapper for a dealer(neighbor)Dropped it off on Sat on Sun he said he bought 2 anvils and sold them before 9 AM.I Need to stop sleeping in. Ken.
  17. Worked in an aircraft factory in the 70s. 4X4X6 sounds about right. End grain up. Shop floor about 20 football field size. Maintance crew would drill and screw a eye lag into a bad one. Pull it out with a cherry picker then hammer in a new one. Several hundred viberating machines on the floor and nothing felt. Half a dozen blade profilers and Bullard VTLs running 10 feet away and no vibration felt. In the pioneer days it was punchion floors. 6" long logs set on the ground filled with sand. Made a lot of floors. Ken.
  18. Just don't tell me ya found those at Smileys. Usually there Fri Sat and Sun. Ken.
  19. Third may be a mousehole. "Armitage mouse hole" However the third weight number cannot be over 27 as 28 is the quater weight. Second number cannot be over 3. The wording of the logo can give a time period but not an exact date. Ken.
  20. Standard work is 1 hr. Improbable work is 1 day. impossible work will take slightly longer. Ken.
  21. Best bet is post pics both sides and front foot. Numbres on the oppsite side high up and back near the hardy hloe (3 digits) may be batch #s for a late model tool steel top 1908 and later. Ken.
  22. I see a lot of welding. Both on the stiffiner plates and the top of the rail. Rail(at least my london pattern shaped rail)Did not have a flat sharp edged top. Mine is crowned and work hardened. If it was built up or machined down you might need to harden it. Keep the jewelry small and the hammer small ya should be OK. Putting in a pritchel is easy a hardy will wear ya out. Enjoy. Ken.
  23. So a mint 400lb fisher is only worth $290 a metric ton? I would be intrested in a few 250lbers. Sorry Thomas couldin't resist. Yeh I could buy a 55 T bird in 69. can ya buy one today for the same price? Son don't quote back in the day prices. I am 66 yrs old I know the then and now prices. Sorry I get cranky after 10pm.
  24. OK here is my story. I started out with a #37 lb track anvil. I have 5 real anvils. Can ya have my shop made RR track anvil? Hell no. A good track anvil is a great starter or fine use anvil. Make a lot of jewelery n it. Ken.
