  1. Preach on John!!! Had a kid, well he's 20yrs old, come to my shop 2 months ago wanting to learn how to run a bead in pipe to pass a welding test. He had just got out of the "Tulsa Welding School" in Tulsa, OK. He could not do it and after watching him weld I doubt that he will ever make a good welder. BUT!! his 'deploma' from the school reads "Billy Bob Smith" Master Welder! We have tested welders here that have welded for years and not be able to pass our test. And it is fairly simple, 6G- 6010 root and hot pass, fill n cap with 7018, 6" sch. 80 cs pipe. Absolutely NO IP in root, 100% X-Ray. Went through over 60 "welders" in less than a month and offered a job to 7.
  2. that would be my guess! From you comment I take it you're not #4...too bad, I think you would be Great!

  10. Before I built my shop/studio I was given this piece of advice; figure out how big you want....then DOUBLE IT! Trust me, you will out grow it quick! (mine is 30 x 40 and wish it was bigger!)
  11. Great! We are glad to share in you excitement....now some pictures. BTW, if you knife does happen to go south no worries, you know you can make MORE stock for the next one!
  12. Soaking in motor oil and the like will may work over time but diesel will go places that motor oil can't. I still contend that a 3-4 day at least, longer sure won't hurt, will do the trick. Good luck to you both! As a side note, diesel also is a good way to find leaks in gas tanks, oil pans and the like...
  13. Prayin for ya my friend. And do take care of yourself also. Take all the time you need but know you will be missed!
  14. I got to see Daniel strike back in Feb. at the Lee Bros shindig, very impressive. Also got to see some of his handy work all of which was very impressive. I wish that I could make this conf. but alas, my day job has me bound. I encourage all that can make it to attend and support the young men! Karen, I will try to send you a little something to help with the boys while ya'll have them....if I can still find your mailing addy! Finally got out to the forge this past weekend, first time since I got back for ya'll place, and started using my brite-n-shiny new hammer!! enjoy the 4th!!
  15. WHOA turbo, DO NOT grind off anything :o ...you haven't had it long enough to give up yet. ;) Get a 5gal bucket of diesel and give it a long soak...by long I mean a few days at the least! You will be surprised what will move then. Good score on your 'new' stuff! enjoy.
  16. Thomas, have you made anything from that bit of TI I sent you a few yrs back? Just wondering....
  17. The edges on this anvil look good, but it appears to have been milled/machined on the face...which could be a bad thing as I'm sure they took a lot of the face plate off, making it thinner and reducing the life of the anvil. I agree with Jeremy on this, don't worry too much about name brand and a big chunk of steel will serve you well.
  18. Thankful all is OK now. (That ain't luck, btw)
  19. Saltfork is very active. You are also fairly close to the BAM group...in Missouri, they too are a very active group although I'm not sure how close meeting would be to you. their site http://www.bamsite.org/ you can check for meetings in your area.
