  1. I'll start doing pushups I guess, haha
  2. Haha ya I was only half serious, Im busy too, plus we just signed a contract on a new house in the area. Gonna be moving and building another shop... so late summer/fall might be good
  3. I bet this one cost around $200 http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/32335-mini-forging-press-goes-bang-with-pics/
  4. Awesome work! That is a nice set of tools there. Now you have to come show me what you learned! lol
  5. Id say the living quarters would have to be sealed and kept at a positive pressure to keep dust and gunk out.
  6. Thanks Ironstein, I know Ive talked to you about your hammer before. When you added the wood base did you modify the foot pedal at all?
  7. Thanks for the input, I'm still leaning towards the 88lber. I'm not running a large production shop and I am always doing what I can to keep the neighbors happy, with their kids and dog I don't think me using the hammer intermittently during a few weekdays will be any issue. James at anyang has always been an awesome help with any questions, Ive just been nervous about new neighbors. I wear earplugs anytime I'm forging anyway, so the noise from the idling hammer isn't an issue for me and if the idling causes problems with neighbors then I would be just as screwed using a table saw. The house has a 3 car garage and the guy in there now has some pretty noisy woodworking tools, so my stuff will be farther away even.
  8. My wife and I are looking at a new house, its in a rural area outside the city in a subdivision of 1 acre lots with an open 1 acre lot to one side that may or may not ever have something built on it. I plan on having a 20x30 shop built in the back, insulated and shingle roof, no windows, with the small and large door both facing my house. Ive never seen an Anyang 88 in person(yet), so I'm not sure how loud it really is. With the closest house being about 100 yards away, inside an insulated building, doors can be closed, at least when I plan on using the hammer, since I'm using induction and maybe mount the hammer on a rubber stall mat to reduce vibration? Would it still be easy to hear? I don't do a lot of heavy forging, I would be working out there during weekdays and I will have a hydraulic press to do some things. I would also be very proactive about involving the neighbor and showing them what I'm doing. Maybe I should have posted this in "Problem Solving" I couldn't decide which one....
  9. I'd say its more hazardous being an uninformed buyer. If they are bidding on such an obviously damaged anvil without being able to tell then they are just as much at fault.
  10. 110 pound Vulcan, I would like a 200ish pound sawyers anvil with sharp edges.
  11. Very cool! are you going to run a line-shaft with it?
  12. My 15x30 shop. Just did some cleaning and rearranging last week, trying to plan where I'm going to put things. I went to get the big 20" drill press from grizzly yesterday but they sold all 3 in one day, tax returns I guess... so I have to wait a week for mine to come in. I need it to drill the hydraulic cylinder pin holes in the frame of the press. The longer table on the far right of the shop I'm probably going to end up using for a sander/grinder/buffer station, having them lined up in a row and get a 1hp wall mount dust collector. I might convert the smaller table to a welding table with vent hood..maybe. The press will go in the back left corner when its done, powerhammer in the front left area, this year if Im lucky. Its a simple shop compared to a lot of others, but I'm working my butt off to build it up, just a year ago I was still working outdoors with a rr track and brake drum forge. This mornings snow Panorama!
  13. That looks like a heavy duty tool, I bet it could stand up to some heavy hammering. ;)
  14. No, just cuddling with it on the couch for now.
  15. I ordered a 3lb cross peen from Brent, got it very quick and its a huge upgrade from my HF hammer. I can tell it takes a few hits off some of the things I make a lot of, now I need to upgrade the anvil! I made a little leather protector for the handle, my old hammer had a smaller face and while upsetting 1/2" bars I missed a couple times and gouged the handle. The new hammer has a wider face so it shouldn't be a problem anymore but I like the way it looks.
  16. Vulcans are already pretty low on the anvil quality chart. I have a vulcan and use it probably more than any other vulcan gets used but that one I wouldnt waste my time with. Id pay $20 for it if its the only option you have right now, otherwise keep looking.
  17. Grizzly 7x12, with some m42 blades and it cuts dead straight and fast. Its my first big machine with a coolant system, pretty fun!
  18. An episode of the woodwrights shop from pbs about a viking tool chest that was re-made by members of ABANA. http://www.pbs.org/woodwrightsshop/video/2800/2812.html
  19. Making your own tools is always fun and you'll learn what works as you go. I see your putting the gas forge to use! Working well?
  20. I talked to James from anyang, wider dies can be made, the cylinder is round and the die surface can be made just under the diameter of the cylinder. So draw a circle around the dies and basically thats what it could be.
  21. The funny part is all the comments under that video, lots of armchair swordsmiths out there lol.
  22. Again, very nice. I like your stock rack too, Ive been going over ideas for one, I may do something like that.
  23. I saw a few videos of brake drum forges and realized I could scrounge up stuff I already had to make one. Its been a constant learning/upgrading of tools and techniques since then.
