  1. Looks great! Running at 60psi and under is pretty nice. I want it... my 150 needs a friend :)
  2. The induction heater runs about 20kw, I had the bar preheated before I started recording so it wouldn't take long to get going. The compressor is 7.5hp 80 gallon, about 27cfm I think. This hammer seems to be pretty efficient with the air.
  3. Forging a little bigger bar just for show, watch it in HD if you can. The camera(my phone) is just sitting on some wood propped up on the hammer frame, Id say this thing is pretty stable. 1.25" round at 125psi, Changing the psi on the hammer is not inconvenient and you really don't even have to, its just fun and gives you more options.
  4. The variac is just used for initial testing, the forge itself has current control that can be adjusted to change the output power. The one I have in my shop now doesn't have any controls, its just wide open so I have to be careful not to melt the steel.
  5. Ya it just looks a lot more complicated that the other guided helves I've seen.
  6. Ive never seen this hammer before, pretty crazy setup, anyone ever use or see one before?
  7. A little forging, I'm sitting in a chair and it looks like I'm lower than I actually am, wouldn't want the face to close to the level of the dies.
  8. The safety chain I thought of because I owned a jeep for a while and throwing something heavy over the winch line was always a good idea, figured it would apply here as well. It slid very easy though, not nearly as much tension on everything as I expected.
  9. Some pictures of hauling it home last week, 3/4"id air hose and 3/4x10 hilti brand wedge anchors, I'll eventually run a 3/4 or 1" hard air line so I can have the proper drops/drains. Should finally be setting it in place Monday morning, heavy rain for a few days here kept the forklift truck for being able to get to my shop.
  10. I saw a YouTube video of a brake drum forge and scrounged up a version of one.
  11. I'm going to pick it up, hauling it home on Monday, forklift will be moving it into place Tuesday morning.
  12. macbruce, I ordered it from Ken, he and his wife are building it and I'm going to pick it up on Sunday.
  13. Marylou stays busy in the shop as well, she sent an update after she finished painting the hammer, impressive to say the least.
  14. If you can find that H frame Dillon, I think we would all finally be impressed with your shop.... :P
  15. Sorry Mudman I didn't see this till just now, the forge is working great but its not mine anymore, sold it to a guy around here when I started using induction, he has been using it quite successfully from what Ive seen. His name on here is MoMatt and he's posted some of his work from time to time. Ive kicked around the idea of ordering another one someday though, but no need for it yet.
  16. Couple pics from the build in Ken Zitur's shop, should be finished around the end of the month.
  17. Thanks, this will make some nice bedtime reading.
  18. Very cool, I like the handle! I had thought about doing some laminate handles, I know the wood glue forms a bond stronger than wood and what not, how do you think it would hold up on a heavy use tool?
