Well it depends. On the propane forge , the size and the burners . On coal it depends on the fire mending and the quailty of the coal . Many factors play arole.

I get my at my cousin`s work for the most part , but when I need something I aint got I get it from my LWS cause its a lot cheaper than napa, or ace . I have got some from Home depot though , its pretty resnoible.

1st off you get coke from burning coal, its a great/clean fuel. I reckon it has higher btu then coal also. It produces hardly any smoke as to green coal which has lots of smoke. The coke has the inpurites burned out also.

Why dont you just make some sort of wedge? It sounds to me probally the SIMPLEST fix.

Okay, I`ve been building me a new gas forge and have 1" inch of inswol , then 1" of castable refactory on it. And I freind of mine was talking about getting ITC 100 to lightly coat the castable refactory , is there any big advatanges of doing this besides making it smooth? I`am working with a farrier who learned under a farrier of 30 yrs of farriering and am learning alot from both. They both take time to make sure of the horses foot problems so they can correct them. They also take the time to tell me about the foot and about the horse shoe`s use (such as why some need clips etc.) Chris

I thought I`d let y`all know that I`ve got to ride with Wendale 2 times so far. I have now learned to able to pull and shape shoes. I REALLY like it . I also have learned to make clips on shoes also. More updates to come.

I just got my copy of the first Volume. I have just read first of it yet but so far its GREAT!!!!!

I`ll start making some leaves tommorow. I make some out of 1/2" &/or 5/8" . I`ll Post pictures, though i dont have a touch mark but I can stamp my intails (CDJ) and TENN. USA so they can be identifed. Chris
