If you look at my profile, you'll see hobbies that cost $. Seems to be the way I do things. 1 thing I did learn when BBQin is you can learn on your own and spend lots on meat to throw away. Or you can take a class. But I didn't see that on any list, I could have missed it But that can be the place you don't want to cut corners. Good classes will save BIG $$ in meat and supplies I see the same thing happening here. I joined http://www.nysdb.org/ Every meeting the elders ( LOL, I'm 57 ) teach us something. I also have 1 just like that. I used a pipe bender and made new legs for mine. The threads were all rusted thin causing it to wobble. Mine screw in. I looked on eBay all the time to learn the name of the tools and equipment Blacksmiths use. I saw 1 there for $2300 ( all painted pretty) and still going. I forgot about it for a few days, by the time I got back it was gone and I didn't see the price it went for. I was told not to burn in it till I put in some heat cenment. I hope to this weekend. I stopped at the hardware store and picked up a cast iron drain cover for the sewer vent for $6 and change. Think I'll trim the 4 legs off the cast iron to lower it to the floor of the pot and install the cenment the way Phil said. Thanks Phil..I gotta get the new phone to post the event

Dave we should have our own forum LOL. I'm lookin to you for help at both threads. When you say your using SOFT bricks I see frie bricks in your pix I understand soft bricks to bee kinda like Styrofoam and easy as butter to cut. Do I have them mixed up ? I did start door like yours. but I still may use 1 20# tank instead of 2, 20# tanks Thanks for all you help Gents.. Someday when I get this done and banging some metal. I'll beable to help the next batch of new "Iron Heads"

Thanks Dave for your fast responce, 1, I plan to use 2" of the blanket you mention. And fire brick doors on 3" channel 2, I was building it like a 40# propane tank. Cause I was going to twist 1/2 " square for a porch rail. Till I learned not to heat the stock because an uneven heat will twist stock uneven. So I just kept the same plans. Your thinkin that 3 burners with/out ball valves for shut offs, will not work right ? Then I'll just use 1, 20 # tank. Whats crazy I did make 4 burners....LOL I just think that 5 burners will eat the propane faster then I can buy it. And natural gas is to far to pipe. 4 may cost to much if the price don't slow down Thanks, for input :) :) :)

Hi Gang, Dave I've been working on 3 burners of your design. I'm building a forge oven that is 16" long x 12" round. It's two 20 propane tanks with the ends cut off ( justing the body) and welded togeather making it 16" long. What I wondering is if I use three burners in that 16" will it be to hot, or not hot enough. I did build 4 just in case. What I may do is install 3 burners each with it's own ball valve to shut off gas, so I can burn 1, 2, or all 3 burners. But if 1 or 2 are shut off will the heat ruin them. Guess I'm kinda askin about what temp are the burners. This is my frist forge build and I got this far, Just guessing the next step Thank You

I working on a gas forge out of propane tanks. Things are real close. I am wondering about Doors. 1, If I use metal for doors I'll have to cover them with that Unifrax blanket, RIGHT 2, If I use fire brick how would I do the doors ? I have seen pix around here, but can't seem to find them. Any ideas Thank All of You for your help
