  2. nice score, glad to see you can use his old tools. , btw if you need a home for the hammer, send me a PM. :)
  3. WHAT?!?!!? You actually finished it. Real nice, as usual.
  4. Spark Test. , there's a detailed BP for spark testing as well.
  5. Oh that's a really cool thing, the smoke and scale. I have just been given a wooden mallet, so I will make good use of it. Thank-You to anonymous.
  6. Oh, Aeneas brings up a good point, can you use that axe as a throwing axe as well?
  7. That's really cool JR. Can't wait to see it in use at perhaps a demo for the museum with your working at it!!! Will you be doing any demos with it???
  8. 3/8 round bar makes real nice long leaves, nails, hooks, and many other things. Just heat it up start smithing and see how it re-acts. Hopefully it'll be a mild steel that you can forge with.
  9. Nice knife, your two sons are smiths in the rising!!!. Great job.
  10. Cool larry, - not trying to hi-jack the thread Sam - but where did you take this class??
  11. Cool. Do you go camping a lot, cuz this would be perfect for that. You don't have anything in any larger sized stock??? Maybe a large damascus axe would be cool. Lol. Either way, can't wait to see it when completely down.
  12. Jr, maybe a BP in the future for this, and maybe a little bit of the setup as well, that you have in the thread. Excellent job again.
  13. Hey chris, did you get that forge finished this wednesday???
  14. Nice new anvil stand. I like your way of hanging tools from your stand. I use metal U rings, might have to try your way. Your dog looks like he just wants to be pet. Lol. Give him a hammer and make him your striker.
  15. Tapered from the bottom of the hole, that's what the counter-punch was fore, to fix all of that. But I'll see if I didn't do it completely tomorrow. If not, then I'll fix it and see what it does then.
  16. Sweet Sam. Good luck with finishing it. I guess I can't poke at you for not finishing it. Gonna try a larger axe for more serious chopping after that one???
  17. The Backyard Blacksmith - Lorelei Sims The Complete Modern Blacksmith - Alexander G. Wegners Blacksmiths Primer - Randy Mc Daniels - Home
  18. Yes, it is an addiction. I've been actually going for about 6 months now, total since i got addicted, 1 and a half. One thing for sure. This site is great for beginners or pros. welcome to ifi. John & owen.
  19. I hope it turns out in your favor, get some use out of it, with some pictures for us. Good luck and safe forging, DON'T forget safety euqipment, glasses, ear plugs, apron if possible, and good boots if possible.
  20. I have never used any kind of liner for my forges, so I have never researched it, but look-up wash-tub forges, and they have a good recipe for mixing a liner up.
  21. To be honest, and this is really frustrating, I dealt with this until I got my first good anvil, thanks to Art. One of the best ways is word of mouth. tell everyone you know to mention to everyone that they know that they have a friend looking for an anvil. Amazing how fast that can work.
  22. Ditto Tim(cheftjcook),that cowboy hat is just another example.
  23. As always Sam, great job. What are you gonna use for a finish on it? And are you gonna use that for youself (wood) or give it to someone. Since, I haven't bothered making a hot cut, that has somesort of a handle attached to it yet, I bought a cheapo hatchet to use for now. Wouldn't recommend your awesome hatchet for that though. Great job, do you know the dimensions off hand? BTW, does this one go into the pile of "To be finished blades and what not" ??? Lol, jk.
