  1. Try Craigslist. I got a 3' x 3' forge with a buffalo 400 fire pot and tuyere for $50 and then got a champion 40 blower for $130. I had to look for a while, but I was glad I waited.
  2. I swear, not being personal, but how big is your new anvil? Does he have any 300+ pounders for saleL Thx
  3. Anyone know how to remove the gear cover on the buffalo silent 200 14" blower? It doesn't seem to have any screws on it. I will look at it again in the light tomorrow. Larry
  4. I saw a forge for sale on craigslist for $50. I called and went a checked it out. It was a homemade forge with a champion 400 firepot/tuyere attached to it. Plus, they gave me a locked up buffalo silent 200 blower to go with it for free. I will try to get pictures tomorrow. Larry
  5. Jim, It is a beautiful anvil! Wow what a great deal! You will be using it for years to come.
  6. how does one go about buying one of these. thanks
  7. Dang, Look at all the hammers ......and tongs!!!
  8. She has been to a neurologist and they are setting her an appointment to see a neurosurgeon. Seems to have something to do with some kind of disc problem. I guess we will know more when she gets back from there, but I think it is going to be a long drawn out process. She is still in pretty bad shape, but she is trying to get back to normal and is trying to do stuff around the house that doesn't hurt her too much. Its rough. I had to do the laundry the other day. I didn't know you separated the colors from the whites! No wonder all my clothes turned out grey when I was single Thanks for asking. We are still wanting to come down for a day, just gotta figure out her back problem first. Larry
  9. In the last month, I bought a 90lb anvil with the stump for $50. I got 2 post vises, 1 needs a leaf spring the second I just got - $50 for the one with missing spring $40 for the complete one, both 4 inch vises. I bought a forge pot for $50, man is it heavy. I bought a 180lb Mousehole anvil for $250. I had to do a lot of legwork to get all these, but I am excited :)
  10. Thomas, I am actually asking most everyone. Some kind of think I am looney asking them, but I say maybe they know someone who might know of someone. I have also advertised in the state newspaper and even some of the free papers, as well as advertising on Craigslist as well. I have some "feelers" out, but nothing yet. As well as for this anvil, I guess I asked too many questions. He said he was going to answer my questions, then sent another email quickly afterwards saying it was sold. oh well. I also have another of the Thomases here who has a 125# for sale. He is going to get me the price. So, i am actively looking for one. Guess I need to learn patience now Thanks Larry
  11. I live about 250 miles from where this is. I agree that the the pic is too small and have requested this and extra pictures to show me more about it. I think it looks pretty flaky anyway. Plus a 250 lb anvil for $400 is a good price , but enough to make me check everything out. It looks like it has two hardy holes on the top. Think it might be photoshopped? I also asked the guy to give me any markings that were on it. For that kind of money and also for how far I would have to travel, I really need to be sure it is a "real, steel, deal" Thanks for the reply Larry
  12. I have a chance to get this 250 lb anvil. The owner doesn't know anything about it. Ever seen one like it? Does the base look like cast iron? I wonder if the face is the only thing steel? Any help would be appreciated. I will see if I can get any more pictures. Thanks for looking Larry
  13. Thomas, I am probably closer to you than I am the AR group. I may take you up on your offer sometime and mosey over to see what you have sometime. Thanks for all the information! I am really excited and want to see some demos and meet other folks who enjoy this. My ggrandfather, grandfather were blacksmiths and my father was one early on but did more welding in his later years. I was going to inherit the blacksmith gear but instead ' lost' it when my Dad needed to sell it instead. I was able to recover some of his welding gear but none of the blacksmith gear. Thanks!
  14. I am Larry Loe, just getting started. I have always been a do-it-yourself person and will try to fix things instead of going and buying something new. I do quite a bit of work around the house and being able to make things from iron and other metals is exciting to me. I am hoping to retire from my current job in a few years and blacksmithing looks like a great hobby/career once I am retired. I haven't seen any groups near Little Rock and haven't found an anvil as of yet either. If anyone has some tips, please send em my way. Thanks!
