  1. You done good. I have one of those, but one gear tooth is broken and the fan is loose. But it still does a great job. Congrats!
  2. Beth, this is incredible! I look at it and see the symmetry and grace of the turns. I traced each of the twists and turns of the vines and enjoyed the wraps and splits and the ways they ended. I looked at this for several minutes before I even noticed the flower! It is divine and exquisite in the execution. If this is something you made without planning, all I can say is WOW!
  3. In fifth Ed. AIA, page 384, is a page from the Columbus Forge and Iron Co. It is a page from book number 28, June 5, 1935 to Jan. 7, 1941. Does anyone know of any more pages? I'm interested in finding the official weight of my anvil, according to the company. Thanks
  4. The 1.2.14 means is weighs 182 lbs 1x112 + 2x28 +1x14 The first number is the hundredweight - 112 lbs this number can be 0 to who knows. Yours is 1 so it = 112 Second is quarter of hundredweight - 28 lbs , this number will be 0 to 3. Your second number is 2 so there are 2 x 28 = 56 The third number is single pounds and will be 0 to 27. Yours is 14 so it = 14. 112+56+14 = 182 pounds The anvil is about 175 years old, I believe.
  5. Is that the 1830's version of the Mousehole? I have a 180 lb Mousehole. I cleaned it up and used it for a year. Mine had a real bad sag in the center. In fact, I just replaced the Mousehole (yesterday!) with a 400lb+ Trenton. But that Mousehole is a tough anvil. Enjoy!
  6. I got it loaded (well, my family and I got it loaded) and I brought it home and stripped most of the paint. It looks pretty good although the table has some damage with a few spots of similar damage to the horn.
  7. Hah! That makes at least two of us that enjoy both blacksmithing and Honda Runes.
  8. Ok, it looks like it says "Tre" inside a diamond, but can only see the left portion of the diamond. It has several coats of paint on it and has filled in a lot that might be able to tell me what it is. But It is probably is a Trenton I tried a big ball bearing on it and it rings incredibly loud! So, I will try to remove the paint when I get it home next Wednesday. Then I can see the weight and serial number. Woohoo!
  9. Welcome from Little Rock, AR. The Blacksmiths of Arkansas have now created subgroups for central (Little Rock)and northeast Arkansas (Jonesboro). The Central Ar group meets mostly in Little Rock and meets the third Saturday of the month. The group leader is Dale Custer and his email is dc6482@att.com. The main group meets in north Arkansas (around Harrison normally, sometimes near Fayetteville) on the second Saturday of the month. The president is Ron Wells, rbwells@eritter.net Hope to see you at a meeting soon! Larry
  10. You mean I might have saved it from a life of luxury? I didn't get my daughter to try the ball bearing test on it. Hopefully that will be good or it may go back to being a coffee table :)
  11. They started to do that and the ramp broke. Now they are thinking about come along and chain and finding a real ramp. Added later: Ok, it finally made its way to my daughters house.
  12. Thanks, I will keep that as a reference! Right now they are still trying to figure out how to get it into the back of the truck. :)
  13. It is approximately 16" high with a 13"X16" base. It has a 5 3/4"X24" face, 15 1/2" horn and 1 1/2" hardie hole. The previous owner says 250 pounds, I say 350 or larger. my daughter says it has the number 186830 or 186930 on the front. She lives in San Antonio where the anvil was. I live 600 miles away and will go pick it up on July Fourth holiday. Woohoo!
  14. Nice anvil! Oh, Thomas, Arkansas has real highways now, although some are a little rough. :) Good forging! Larry
  15. Do you have a file that we can save? YouTube won't let me save it. Thanks
