  1. I will mainly be working on the front side and the clutch works well so I will be leaving it alone. I do want to update the tread rod as there is a whole bunch of slack there.
  2. Clint, here is the clutch area Here are the pitman and cross head. The pitman is in bad shape and the cross head is upside down.
  3. Warning, lots of photos: I bought a Mayer 25lb hammer about a month ago. It definitely needs some work. Looking at it, it had a bunch of brazing performed on it and didn't have many bolts. It looks like I have a lot of work. The first thing I noticed was some brazing on the flywheel and a big ring had been sweated onto the flywheel. Pins were welded to the ram while both toggle links were connected. In order to remove the toggle links I have to cut the pins out of the ram. What I thought was a spring turned out to be a tubular shaped piece of rubber. Right, no spring. The toggle arms are homemade and they held the rubber tube. The knuckle on the right toggle arm was worn and in bad shape.
  4. Thanks, Frosty, I took it as you telling me how you did it. I'm really hoping to replace it all with LG parts (everything that is hanging off the crankpin, anyways). I think I will ask Roger when I do order. But, I will definitely listen to any advice from you Larry
  5. Hi Frosty. Someone took to welding everything instead of using bolts. I'd rather have bolts for assurance. If you look at the top pictures, there aren't a lot of bolts. Plus, it looks like they turned the cross head upside down and used pins instead of bolts. This looks like it would introduce a bunch of slack where there shouldn't be any. So I really want bolts
  6. Can anyone tell me what size the bolts are that connect the toggle arms to the cross head, toggle arms to the toggle links, and the ram to the toggle links? I searched and didn't find anything. Thanks!
  7. From the little giant website it looks like I can replace everything hanging on the crankpin (arms, pins, spring, toggle links, etc...) with 25 lb LG parts. I sure hope so. Im concerned about running it the way is is. Larry
  8. I've emailed several times 2-3 weeks ago and no reply yet from Roger. Guess I need to call. Larry
  9. Nice! How far did you go with it in the back of your truck?
  10. Augus7us, thanks! Pics of the arms would be great. Especially, the lower portions. I haven't found any closeup pics yet.
  11. Does anyone have close-up pictures of their Mayer 25 lb hammer. Specifically, the ram and the arms. mine seems to have a lot of things welded where there should have been bolts. The welds look old. thanks larry
  12. The 110v cable is frayed and I need to replace it before I try it. I will get better pictures of the wood too. I was getting it off the truck and got it in the garage yesterday. The ram doesn't have a guard/cover. Did these older hammers have a guard? I guess it is old with a number of A 102.
  13. I drove 900 mile round trip Friday night and yesterday to get this Mayer 25lb Triphammer. I also got 10 shoe boxes of knife handle wood and antlers. Some of the wood is a burl of some kind. Cost $1100.00. The motor is 110v and the hammer is # A 102
  14. It's weight is misleading. I tried to pick it up to show my wife and dang near dropped it on my foot :)
  15. Went to scrap yard. Saw this triangle shape of metal in the ground. I figured it was 1/2" thick, but it ended up being 3" thick. Dimensions are 10"x10"x14" and weighed 50 pounds. Hit it for $8. Nice sharp edges. I'll have to file them a little round so they don't chip off too much.
  16. eBay.co.uk has some good anvil prices at times. They seem way better than here in the U.S. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACKSMITHS-FORGE-ANVIL-VINTAGE-INDUSTRIAL-METAL-ENGINEERING-TOOL-CAR-WORKSHOP-/131259003057?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e8fa570b1 4 CWT anvil - pickup only tho. Wish I was back in England! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/blacksmiths-anvil-/171409686141?pt=UK_Collectable_ToolsHasdware_RL&hash=item27e8d03e7d Maybe you can find something that cab be shipped. Good luck in your hunt :)
  17. I got a small one-ton arbor, and just got home from San Antonio to visit my daughter and my grandsons. I have a great wife who lets me blacksmith and had a great Christmas. I hope everyone else did too.
  18. He won't say why it is reinforced. I have emailed him. He didn't answer.
  19. Looks like the air worked. I had 125lbs of air pressure behind it. My forge Works again! Thanks, folks.
  20. I will try the torch tip cleaner first. Thanks, everyone, for the tips. Larry
  21. They have a FAQ that says they don't have a lot of time to answer the phone. But, I emailed them and am waiting to see if they answer it. I do like this forge. Thanks
