  1. as i am also guilty of making alecs anvil steam by forging in the hardy hole, i agree that it works well, and it didnt damage his anvil, so why not use it ?
  2. vaughns are great, but making hardie tools can be a pain as some have 2" hardie holes!!
  3. i am considering making damascus pattern welded steel, and would appreciate any tips or advise, all is welcome. thanks in advance

    you could try fullering in around the position the leaves wrap around, so it cannot slip. just a thought. nice rose!
  5. the opposite, the more mass is used to rebound the impact from the hammer and in a sense hit from below, taking energy away "bleeding away " as you put it would have negative consequences. essentially, the more mass=greater rebound=less work for you, less mass/shock absorbant material=less rebound=more work for you hope this helps, monty

  8. i agree with ThomasPowers, to attach the wax catchers,i would either braze them on, or a similar thing to what i did this morning, clamp the spike in a vse and hammer the wax catcher down with a monkey tool, or log with a hole in it

  11. i wasnt sure if this was the right place for this, but i recently bought "copper earthing rod" only to find out it is only copper plated steel,5/8", is there anything i cand do with this? thanks monty

  17. i thought it was copper that turned skin green, does brass do the same?
  18. a new design for a ring, silver soldered then acid bathed to remove oxidation i left the brass ring open for easy size ajustment
