the leaf is curved, and i was going for simple, it has only a slightly raised vein in the centre, no other markings, it was good fun i think i may be making more! thanks for the comments!
i really like those tools! i have seen some of alec.s' tools first hand and those are equally awesome, thanks for posting them! also am i right in thinking that they are punches AND drifts all in one? if so that is awesome!
i agree with the clarity of mark aspery's images, i have has books. i really like the idea of using a ball pein to turn into a leafing hammer, and may be stealing it

im nearing the end of a file knife, and i just annealed it by heating it evenly then turning off the air supply to the coke in the forge and allowed it to cool overnight

i have heard of double and triple tempering, tempering, shining, re-tempering etc, and have been told that the longer the steel is held at the tempering temp, the more effective it is?
has anyone got any more in depth explainations?
