I don't see any but I would give them a call. They look more like an actual knifemaking supply and if they don't stock any they may be able to bring some in when they bring in steel. Or they may decide roughed out blades are something they want to carry. They do sell flat blade stock though. If you are doing a stock removal blade and plan on tapering the blade at all, cutting the profile while a fair bit of work is not that big a part of the overall job. Especially if you can find someone with a bandsaw that you can borrow to rough out a couple of blades.
i gont have a blade grinder at this point, and i dont know anyone thish a vertical bandsaw, i was hoping just to buy the blanks so i could better learn how i need to forge my own blades to make finishing easyer... i will give him a call tomorrow if i get a chance -
I have never dealt with these guys but I have heard good things about them. http://www.mossingtonknives.com/supply/home.html They seem to have a lot more actual knifemaking supplies and less imported junk knives and swords than that other link.
hi mr newman, i couldnt find a link for blades on this site? do they sell blades? or just steel for blades? -
I'm not Canadian and I have no experience with these guys, but Google turns up this page: http://www.on-the-edge.ca/103supplies-pg.htm
hey matt, i have spoken to these guys, they are a little sketchy about the material in thier blades when i asked what steel i got told "i think they're 440c? dose that sound right?" -
just got home, i got 4 sets of tongs, 2 farriers, 1 large set that look to be for making hammers under a power hammer and a set for small round stock a 10lb sledge with a cross pein, and my favorite, a stake anvil that is about 20" tall and 45" long with a nice big horn (pics to come)

i am looking for a place to buy knife blades like these http://www.knifemaking.com/category-s/57.htm so i can finish them and better understand how to mount hardwear top them without spending a ton of money making the blades, then i can hopefully sell them (being honest that the blades are not of my making) for a small profit, but i cant find any where i can order them through the mail in canada, i could order them from jantz but would rather not pay the boarder fees and wait for the super efficient boarder people to let the package through
Thanks

So you are making a bunch AND having repeat runs expected? The 1080 will tolerate a "backyard" heat treat better, the W2 will probably perform better under long term professional use, but either way proper heat treat is needed. You can also order some of both materials and see which is better from a production standpoint for your process and equipment. Phil
i have a group of people looking for chisel sets so yes i will be making quite a few, and i hope that if i do a nice job i will get repeat and new customers -

how do i post pics? it's asking for a "URL" but they are on my computer not a website???

I am for sure buying the steel, so far i have heard,
5160
4140
W1
W2
1075-1084
so from what i'm getting here, i think i am leaning towards 1080 or W2 because i can order it through my local supplyer what do you think? -
i have been asked to make 2 woodworking framing chisels and 1 woodworking slick like these

what steel would you suggest i use? i was thinking 1045 or 1085 or maybe W2 -
i dont have any pictures at the moment but i will try to get out and brave the cold to get pics, i'll warn you its messy!
mcmahon i need to invest in some carharts, im stuck with my worn out jacket (because you cant wear the niice warm one where it could get dirty) -
thanks for all the suggestions, but the only problem is that i live with my parents (im 15) and my dad trains horses out of our barn so i cant have anything cobbled together because we have clients coming in and out. i love the snow forge idea, but the problem is, we dont have snow tet, we have ice and (i could skate on the road)
i would love to move south but at 15 i dont think that an option
borntoolate, thats exactly what we have the humidity is frozen and we have a ton of wind.
Jason, are you sending me the money to do that? :P -
so now that its winter up here in canada, we are getting temperatires aroung -20C (-4F) and itsonly going to get colder...and colder...and even colder so, i have been having trouble getting motivated to go out into my outdoor, un-walled shop that is filling with snow so i have some questions.
#1 how do you get motivated to get out there?
#2 how would you protect your tools from snow and wind and rain (3 grinders a drill press a cutoff saw, saws all, drills and sanders)
#3 what could i use for walls? i have portable horse stall pannels that i am using but it is under a slanted roof pole building and they dont go all the way to the roof. -
oops you posted the answer just before i posted the question LOL

got it yet?

i am looking for a place in canada to order some blades, dose anyone know of a place i can order them? i could order from Jantz but would rather buy from canada because i'm worried about our super efficeint boarder helping my order get here safley with minimal charges.......
that part about the boarder was laced with sarcasim -
ok i wasnt sure, i know the hundred weight but didnt know if cwt was a differant system
I have 2 peter wrights, my main one is a 100lb in great shape and my other is a 200lb that could use some work on the face. I'm 15 so my part time jobs are my only income (iv had a litle with blacksmithing). I will speak to him about it today, and have my offers and counter offers planned .... -
i have the opertunity to but a 1cwt brooks anvil with a fitting hardie, the edges and the face seem nice, the seller is asking $300, i have some questions though.
#1 what do you think
#2 i am not familiar with what cwt is, my best guess id cent-weight so 100lbs?
#3 he says the price is negotiable... what should i offer?

my current forge (canadian forge co.) has a clinker breaker and i dont like it as much as my older forge without one, sadly i sold the smaller old one for the newer bigger one, coal and coke will vary in size. My coke is in peices of about 1/2" to 3/4" peices but when it burns down into peices of 3/8 and smaller they can fall through the gaps, i need to figure out some kind or grate to put in it instead

Joshua ,you scored big time lucky! I have paid $50 U.S. for a REED vise that is the same size. These heavy old machinists vises are tough and can stand a lot of pounding, perhaps not as much heavy hitting as a blacksmiths post vise the same size, but a LOT! The jaws are parrallel and do not wedge like a post vise does, but for holding bending jigs and holding work for grinding or drilling, they are excellent. The bigger the better. For now the collectors (spit) do not seem to think these old vises are worth collecting, and they can be had cheap.
it has been sitting around under my workbench looking for a home, i dont know if i will be keeping it

and i would think that a good smith like you would understand when somone is trying to give ideas for other peoples problems even if they are not the best suggestions. at least i try to help and not make that smith feel like he is stupid and useless... dose that make you feel big and better about yourself? i have never claimed to be a great smith and i have also never tryed to put down another, less experienced smith for trying to help somone else and i am tired of your constant pestering about my skill and experience. i was simply askin a question, and it IS my money, if i wanted i could burn it and use it to light my forge
