thanks everyone for your comments, the paper trail was started off the bat, sask mark has it right, but when i told the parents about the principals call he and i took a trip into the school and spoke to her in person, im still gone from school but it is abbolished from my record and the other kid is suspender for as long as i am, good enogh for me
-
nah its not that big a deal... he got what he needed and i get to be in my shop
-
oh and i forgot to mention, the principal called tonight and asked if i had learned my lesson, i asked what lesson? that you shouldnt stand up to bullies? she said "no that you need to respect people in the sports teams" i hapily explained that im on the football rugby and baseball team and he was insulting me and he threw the first punch... she informed me that he had been beaten up so bad that he couldnt play a game that night (oh well his choice!) and that if i wrote a letter of apology to him for htting him i would be allowed back to school for the rest of the week... i refused and later found out... he has a broken nose and he is the principal's nefew... i only threw 3 punches...

AHHHH a full day of working metal was nice, as far as projects go, my teachers have all agreed to exept me from any projects assigned (they agree that i did the right thing) my parents were angry about me fighting until they understood why... i am 100% fine with being weird or a geek, but this guy not only picked on me but alot of smaller people too that dosnt fly with me around.... i know fighting is not the answer, when he was insulting me i basicly made him look stupid infront of everyone ther with my words... thats why he threw the first punch... it was the only one he landed well
-
i forgot to mention, im on the football team, 6'5" and can bench press my own weight... he was 6' and 210
-
So i am starting this topic because i got suspended from school today... i am out for the rest of the week for getting into a fight, i got into the fight because i have been putting pics of stuff i make on facebook... a small group of guys had been picking on me saying that i was a geek for blacksmithing
I quickly and sharply informed them that blacksmiths are alot tougher than any hockey player (thats what they are) could ever be... The captain decided to test that.... long story short i ended up in the office with sore hands and he ended up in the sick room with a bloody nose and black eye (turns out that fighting on ice and on land is very differant)... i tried to explain that he had been bugging me for a while and i ended it but they didnt buy it EXTRA SHOP TIME FOR ME!!!!
so the question is... atany point were you ever ridiculed for being a blacksmith??? -
wow i love that video! iv been wanting to try it but it takes too long for me to go from forge to vice without it cooling because i dont have an o/a torch

I have been wanting to finish up some peices that i have laying around the shop. This blade was forged and ht'd over 3 months ago, the first pics are rough forged the last are finished,... lots to improve on but thats the point isnt it?
Thanks to everyone on this forum for putting up with me, i took some inspiration from stormcrow on this one, rough forged vinegar soak, paracord wrap with double turks head knot all sealed in 3 layers of clear epoxy resin, not sure what to charge for it as i did it mostly for fun, i have about 15-20 hours into it -
So Its been 6 months since I posted this originally, Here is his first two projects....and todays
is that the forged human face off of that youtube video? -
Beautiful blade. Love the story. Those guys that pick up a blade, you warn them and they still manage to cut themselves. Idiots. Now days they would sue you over their incompetence. The blades name, I shot Dr. Pepper out my nose when I read that. Funny stuff as well as fitting. Not the Dr. Pepper, it burns.
im sure the sword blade burned on its way out too.... and in for that matter.... -
15 Spike Tomahawks and some Bowie knives for a group in Singapore..
no offence, but how is that outragious? i think that would be a cool oppertunity if the price was right -
hmmm at 10" could you throw it on a lathe and turn it into a cone then weld a post on? the cost of the lathe work could be shocking but you would be getting a perfect cone!
just a thought
Josh -
they would be good with v bits i bet!
-
now i need to practise!
once this thunderstorm stops of course -
I was looking around on kijiji for some tools (every once in a while blacksmithing stuff comes up) and on a whim i searched "welder" after lookin through ads for 10 mins i stumbled upon a mastercraft 120v stick welder with 2 brushes, chipping hammer, mask, 2lbs of E6013 rods and a pair of gloves for $100, welder looked new... so i called and they told me to come by tonight, i waved $50 in their faces and took it home.... my first welder, the guy only used it three times before he was given a lincon mig, I'm a happy camper! my first welder.....

what is the most outragious order you have ever gotten? mine was, a person emailed me, and asked me to make a "throwing" circular saw blade, he wanted me to cut holes and add fins to it for aerodynamics and to harden it to about 60rockwell to stop it from bending, and to keep it under $50 needless to say, i refused... so what is yours?

i am paying $30cdn/50lb bag of good coal, $25/bag for coke, i like the coal better... it is about a 7 hour round trip
-
I am really liking using coal from professional farrier supply, it is @ $25/50lb I have never had coal to compare (i have only used coke before this) i'm looking to experiment with many differand sullpyers before i dive into one... i have had alcarb coke,m it is very heavy and large.
-
no they are not, i am planning a day with him to go up and see his... then i need to fix it up!

Hauled a small load of scrap to the yard today and left with less money than I had when I got there! He had an Armitage Mouse Hole anvil with the tail broke off at the hardy hole for $110. It came home with me.I can make out the name and the weight1.0.26 (138lb) and it looks like a date is stamped on it above the weight stamp (1886?). Did they stamp the date on the anvil also? None of the pic's I have seen show this.
I will try to get better pic's after I clean it up more.
are you sure it's a mousehole? it looks alot like a william foster to me, they stamped the date on their anvils
Josh -
Indeed they are sir, good spot. I've examined the shoulders on the pein in question and one is definitely in need of dressing. Must have missed a stroke at full power and mashed it on the anvil or something. Thanks for pointing that out.
an angle grinder is the fastest (and if you're good the best) way to do it, i recognise them because i had the same issue when i started, take them down to a radius of about 1/2" - 3/4" radius depending on the lenght of the pein (smaller pein, smaller radius)
