  1. Is it a DC or AC motor? If DC you can get pulse width modulator kits that will control the speed of the motor. If AC try using a fan speed controller on it.

i really dont know it belonged to a friend of my grandfather who built the forge like 50 years ago i may be able to get some pictures if i can get the camera working i think im going to make a baffle but in the future hopfully sooner than later i want a hand crank blower
  2. i need a hand crank blower for my forge im tired of my too strong electric blower i am only 14 snd on a budget i can afford around $100 trying to really make some additions to my small shop but cant seem to find stuff also mabe looking to get a post vice i am looking at a 4" for $100 good deal?
    thanks
    Josh

  3. I am thinking that if you welded the drum to the bottom, the expansion from the heat may crack your welds. I use a sheet metal/brake drum forge for demos and I just let the brake drum rest in the hole that is a bit smaller than the widest part of the drum. That way when the drum heats and expands, it just moves up a bit higher. Gravity has yet to fail me. :)

ok i just need to get the plumbing stuff and i can hook it up then ill post pics

  4. Yes, no, maybe depending on details you have not provided---like how big/deep a brake rotor you are using---though most folks use a break drum rather than a rotor.

well its approx, 12" in diameter 4" deep, a lil small i think i got a brak drum but it seems too deep how would i make it a litle shallower to be able to get a hearth
  5. if i cut a hole into a pice of 3/8" checker plate and weldded a break rotor onto the bottom will that work for some medieum sized work or would i need to but firebrick all over the top to make it deeper

  6. I called my mom because she knew what it was called. The term I was looking for was a "Portico." They are normally over peoples front doors, but you could make them anywhere. The other term is a wall-less pole shed. I do like the idea of doing half walls. I guess if I did half walls I could avoid some wind chill and also the caustic sun from burning in on one side and scorching me. I'm in central oregon. So does anyone have plans for anything like this or links to peoples little outdoor portico's so I can see what they look like. I'm hoping to have my forge under there and vented up through the roof.

i call mine a cabana its a post structure with a slanted roo we use it for the bbq and bond fires but i have about 150 sq feet not even a half turned into my shop

  7. one heckuva bargain in new hampshire My link

Well i like that people are havig such an easy time down there in the states lol. im up here in ontario canada and i have been forging for close to a year and a half and still have had no luck getting an anvil all i have is a 25lb princess auto anvil. all the anvils iv seen within a 100mile radius are up to 2.5-3 dollars a pound, but i guess i cant complain because i get 2000lbs of coke (burnt down coal) deliverd to my door for $600 (25 cents a pound and 100 dollar shipping
