  1. Does it have to be wood native to your area? And where is your area of the world?
  2. Stretching would depend on even heat across the entire length of the material being stretched. Clamping one end in a vise and pulling with a come-along would most likely bring the vise closer to the come-along before it stretched the wrench. You could use hydraulics to push the two ends apart.
  3. The material for the extra length (2' or longer) must come from somewhere. Try stretching it from a modeling clay wrench first. Why not just take a 2' or longer piece of flat bar stock and forge the ends to the nut size you want?
  4. The punch should be a flat face punch just a bit smaller than the screws diameter.
  5. Bend the tapered ends while HOT. If the two tapered ends do not close exactly, heat the bottom of the heart and close the gap at the tapers. Photos of the stock in the bending tooling will help us see what and how you are doing things.
  6. Drill press essentials reordered by use: a chain to keep the chuck key from getting lost, lubricant, a lamp, and a vise.
  7. Do a search with UK at the first of the search line.

  9. Snow weighs on average about 58-60 lbs/cu/ft., we rounded water to 62.4 and ice to 58 lbs per cubic foot. I have no experience with Alaskan snow, water, or ice, so will have to go with your numbers.
  10. At 60°F (16°C), a cubic foot of water weighs 62.37 pounds (28.29 kg) A cubic foot of ice weighs 57.2 pounds, more than 5 pounds less than a cubic foot of water. Snow Density The density of any material is critical to calculating weight. While the density of snow varies, there are some common density ranges for various types that can be used for estimation. See the table below for average snow densities. Density ranges for various types of snow. Snow Type Density Range pounds per cubic foot kilograms per cubic meter fresh & light 3.12 – 4.37 lb/ft³ 50 – 70 kg/m³ settled 12.49 – 18.73 lb/ft³ 200 – 300 kg/m³ wind-packed 21.85 – 24.97 lb/ft³ 350 – 400 kg/m³ wet & slushy 24.97 – 51.82 lb/ft³ 400 – 830 kg/m³ ice 51.82 – 57.53 lb/ft³ 830 – 920 kg/m³
  11. Bottom blast and side blast is where the air enters the forge, either from the bottom of the fire or the side of the fire. Side draft is where the smoke enters the chimney, from the top and side of the fire.
  12. if you are going to work the end of the bar, then cut it hot. A couple of end on hits and it will be flat, or a couple hits and it can taper. If you want it cut cold, use a pair of big wire cutters, or use a chisel to score the bar and bend to break it.
  13. DO NOT use the wire wheel until you replace or make a guard for it. Paw Paw Wilson was using a 6" braided wire cup brush on a shaft that's pulley run by a 1750 RPM motor. The wire wheel grabbed the metal out of his hands, around the wheel and threw it back into his face. 18 stitches in four separate lacerations, most over the temple. Ophthalmologist checked him and said no retinal separation, but would have definitely ruptured the orb and fractured the Maxillary Process without the glasses. He did have a small, star shaped fracture of his skull at the initial impact point and not one, but two concussions, one at the initial impact point, the second on the top of his head where he hit a five gallon bucket of concrete when he dove away and hit the ground. The accident effectively side lined him for almost two years. He suffered almost constant traumatic head aches for nearly 18 months. Its only in the last six months that they have slowed down enough to permit him to start working again. Please DO NOT use the wire wheel until you replace or make a guard for it.
  14. Build the forge with a 8 or 10 inch diameter chimney that is 3-4 feet taller than any surrounding obstructions that would affect the draft. Just light a couple of sheets of newspaper in the chimney to get the draft going and no draft inducer needed. In western WA state you should be able to find firewood. If not look for pallets. Cut the wooden chunks about the size of a 2x4 and about 4 inches long. You will have to make a deeper fire as you are burning the wood to make charcoal and the charcoal to make embers to forge with all at the same time.
  15. It is a 1500 2wd short bed with a v6 and a Gen Z Anti Theft Device, I mean Standard Transmission Paul TIKI
  16. Brown pop needs to be late on a Friday afternoon, and only one per person. You do not want to get into trouble with the management on company time, or the cops on the way home. Donuts and cookies are good anytime.
  17. Find a topic your interested in, and start there. Do a search for JABOD, just a box of dirt for a easy to make forge, in the forges section. Otherwise find a fuel that is cheap and available in your area and look into a forge that uses that fuel. You may want to look up Florida Area Blacksmiths Assoc FABA and go to the meetings. You will learn more in just a couple of hours than you can imagine.
  18. Find a fuel in your area that is inexpensive, and get a forge that uses that fuel. Go slow, until your body adjusts, as in any new activity.
  19. Checking the bolt torque may be engine maintenance, like adding oil, changing the oil, adding fuel when needed, checking tire pressure, or the torque specs on the lug bolts holding the wheels on the vehicle.
  20. Without specific application as to make, model, year, etc, there is little we can do to try to locate an OEM part. Ordering and shipping would then be up to you. You may want to consider an epoxy to hold tension on the parts.

    Uri Hofi passes

Hofi provided his knowledge and techniques to the blacksmithing community. Several times he came to America to teach classes and invited those interested to come to his place in Israel to learn his way of doing things. He will be missed.
  22. If you post the same material multiple times, there is no way to read all the material. If you post the material only once, the entire discussion is in one place and all the answers and discussion can be easily followed.
  23. Look for a brick cutter or brick chisel. And holder for the brick chisel
