  4. Burns have been discussed on the site many times. One reason to keep a 5 gallon bucket of clean water handy. You can put an entire foot into the bucket, or dip and pour for larger or longer areas. 15 minutes of wet time whether there is pain or not.
  5. No matter how you drill, lubrication is usually helpful. Motor oil is the stuff used in a car engine to keep the parts from cutting into each other. Use a good cutting fluid designed to help the drill bit bite into metal, keep the cutting surface of the drill cool, and help flush out the cuttings.
  6. Use the old welding rods for the metal, 1/8 x 14 inch metal rods. Plenty of projects when you have a supply of the metal.
  7. What is the differences between the two anvils? Weight, size, attachment, etc Switch anvils and the bases and retest.
  8. She and the family are on the list.
  9. Use a chain wrench or a strap wrench. They are easy to make.
  10. Was close and stopped by the usual source for 55 gallon steel drums. They no longer use 55 gallon drums. They now use the 250 gallon containers. It is on to plan B for drums now.
  11. The resident turtle passed through yesterday and two wild turkeys were in the yard this morning. There are two bird nests outside the shop and parent birds are trying to convince me the area close to their nest is their space. Next they will complain that there is too much noise and it keeps their kids awake.
  12. They were working too close to each other. Rule with chainsaws is reach out your arm, have the other fellow reach out his arm, and have 16-18 inches between your fingers. That is as close as you can get to each other. You do not want to turn and cut an arm off or cut someone in half with a chain saw. It is not a cut, but each tooth on the saw blade rips skin, meat, and bone as it passes through at warp speed. It WILL leave a mark.
  13. One way to learn to swing a sledge hammer is to hand split a couple of cords of wood. You quickly learn to aim to hit the correct place on the end of the log, learn how hard to swing, and learn that twenty minutes of splitting wood is not even started yet. Pace yourself takes on a whole new meaning. As with hand hammers, choose the proper weight hammer to get the job done, done correctly, and be able to do that for several hours. Learn to control a 6, then an 8, then a 10 pound hammer before grabbing that 16 or 20 pound hammer and embarrassing yourself. Everyone knows what it means wh
  14. Do not be concerned with things over which you have no control. That anvil has moved on, you need to now look for something that can be used as an anvil to address your needs. Anything heavy can be used. JABOD as a forge and a 2 pound hammer and your good to go.
  15. The tools shown in the videos break up the soil easily enough. It just takes a little time and effort to make it work. You may want to consider breaking up one row and planting potatoes. The soil may need to be broken down finer, so the potatoes can more easily develop in loose soil. Only take on a small amount of ground at a time, and get it planted so you do not wear yourself out. Stop when you get tired and rest. You can come back later and continue.
  16. BP1001 Hofi Hammer Technique BP1002 Hofi Hammer Technique - The Swing BP1006 Hofi Tong Clips Scroll down as the information is at the bottom of the page.
  17. Use only a 2 pound hammer for a week. Easier to hold, easier to control. Make and use a tong clip for holding the tongs closed. There are several designs for tong clips, choose one that works for you and your tongs. Check your body position while hammering. Make sure the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and hammer are in the same plane when hitting the metal. When you practice a hammer swing, the hammer should pass just outside your leg or pants pocket. Now move to put the hot metal into the same plane. Look at the way you grip on the hammer handle. It should be much like th
  18. 1000 square meters is about 0.24 of an acre, or an area about 100 feet by 100 feet in size.
  19. The sand blaster will exhaust the same amount of air that it takes in do do the sand blasting. Depending on the sand blaster this exhausted air may or may not be well filtered before it is dumped out of the machine. It is not the sand being recycled that is a concern but the fine dust that is produced. If the machine has filters, when was the last time they were cleaned, serviced, or replaced, or does it just exit an exhaust pipe to the open air?
  20. Then you should see the size and gray color of using a ox/ac or plasma cutter outside in the snow. Sun will hit the gray dust and debris and melt it faster than the white show. The melted area will visually reinforce the use of masks and ppe.
  21. Grinders work best where the grinding dust and debris do not get on everything, outside for instance. Put the grinder on a stand with wheels, or a small table on wheels so it can be placed near the anvil or outside. This is not the time of year in Ohio, but grinding outside while there is snow covering the ground will amaze you as to how much grinding dust it produces. You can actually the snow with a gray covering.
  22. Price depends on where you are located, the size and construction of the anvil. My first suggestion is to keep and learn how to use the anvil. It will have more value to you for making the things you need then the money value from a sale. Search for a JABOD forge (just a box of dirt).
  23. AngryOnion, Straighten out the bend and it is high quality flat bar for your projects.
