April 4, 20251 yr Hello all. I can't believe there's no posts here yet, so I guess I'll start. I recently learned screen printing at our makerspace, and here's my first T-shirt: Anvil is on the front and saying on the back. We currently have SM, M, L, and XL available. I'm ordering 2XL blanks this week. $25 each.
April 4, 20251 yr If you take a look in the Iforge store you'll see Glenn offered silk screened T-shirts and more. I don't think he ever broke even on materials let alone paid for the press. This post probably runs afoul of the forum rule about advertising without paying for the privilege. Frosty The Lucky.
April 4, 20251 yr He also did custom orders. I wish I had ordered more I have burned up or ruined most of mine. I still have a few in the bag for special occassions. I nominate Frosty to take up the slack and run the store.
April 4, 20251 yr Uh HUH, if nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve. If pressed on the matter I will silk screen Scott's tongue to his forehead with epoxy based ink. Frosty The Lucky.
April 4, 20251 yr 115 years dead? I'm not really 12' deep either you know. If I weren't married and you were a cute lady I could pretend. Frosty The Lucky.
April 4, 20251 yr Like an errant spark from the forge... I love how these tangents spring forth! --Larry
April 4, 20251 yr In essence. I think your toying with me now. I dont even want to ask about your second comment.
April 4, 20251 yr Good, I'll need to warm up to make up something suitable in response to whatever you said. Remind you of a cocktail party of folks with similar interests doesn't it Larry? If you didn't know Hal Clemens was at one time a river boat pilot on the Mississippi. River depth was measured with lead lines marked in one fathom (6') increments and the leadmen would shout the depth to the wheel house. "Mark" whatever. Twain was whatever form of English maybe for "Two," A shout of Mark Twain = 12'. B A D things happened when river boats ran aground. While the riverboat "Sultana" explosion and fire was years before Mark Twain skippered a riverboat, the tail was and still is a cautionary tale about overloading for profit, reckless driving and B A D luck. Frosty The Lucky.

April 4, 20251 yr Smack talking with my friends comes naturally as does suspecting any compliments in the commission of smack talk is a set up. Hmmmmm. Frosty The Lucky.
April 4, 20251 yr I bet he could work out something where a percentnage is paid to IFI for his shirt sales. I know somweone that could approve such a thing here, doesnt have to be large percentage either, I pay IFI a flat fee on each book sold through here, for advertizing my books.
April 4, 20251 yr Scott are you my turtoise? He just awaikend from his hibernation this day and it appears you do to. In that case, I will call you Guust.
April 4, 20251 yr I come and go. Right now I'm hiding out in the house from the tree pollen. When I can.
April 4, 20251 yr Woo HOO, I was hoping someone in Admin could work advertising out, Thanks Steve. I'm lucky pollen doesn't bother me very much, maybe feel a little stuffed up in a bad year. Deb's bothered by the cottonwood around here and she's miserable when it falls. I'd suggest getting a package of N95 masks out we all bought during Covid. They help but it still gets in your eyes, bug eye safety goggles maybe? I know wood dust off the sander REALLY irritates my eyes but the bug eye goggles keep them clear. If I'm making lots of dust I take them off in the shower even. Just tossing out ideas it's generally easy for me to avoid my allergies so ideas is all I have. It's hard for me to see or hear about people with problems without trying to think of solutions. Frosty The Lucky.
April 5, 20251 yr 21 hours ago, Frosty said: Mark" whatever. Twain was whatever form of English maybe for "Two," A shout of Mark Twain = 12'. Properly, “by the mark, twain“ = 12’ exactly. If the water level came between fathom marks, the call would be “by the deep”, followed by the lesser of the two numbers. Thus, “by the deep, twain” could be anywhere from roughly 12’-6” to roughly 17’-6”. In some times and places, more precise terms might be employed: Twain’s own poem “The Aged Pilot Man” (set on the Erie Canal) uses “a quarter three”, “three feet large”, and “three feet scant”. On a side note, “fathom” comes from the Old Norse for “outstretched arms”, and thus is another measurement based on the human body. 21 hours ago, Frosty said: Hal Clemens I think you mean “Sam Clemens”, as his given name was Samuel. However, given the success of actor Hal Holbrook’s one-man play “Mark Twain Tonight!”, it’s an understandable mistake.
April 5, 20251 yr Yes, Samuel Clemens, so much for my memory. I skipped writing very much about Marking depths and went with one of the simpler definitions while noting there were lots of variations, some from boat to boat. It's such a complicated piece of boat handling history we couldn't gloss the titles with a "measuring depth" section here. Once again dredging into memory, I believe river Keel boats, like "Mike Fink's Gullywumper" measured depth by the pole 3' increments, IIRC. I'll fess up now, I remembered keel boat and Gullywumper fur had to look up who's boat it was and who he raced. Long time since I read Davy Crockett or visited Disneyland. Watched every episode of the TV show, you betcha! Frosty The Lucky.

I mean it's everywhere. When a car goes by it kicks up a trail of it. There are those who suffer from it worse than me, I just tfy to stay out of it if possible. Never had allergies before but this is different. All my sculptures are coverred in it and I thought the green algea moss was bad....
April 5, 20251 yr Sounds miserable. In a bad year we'll have a thin yellow green layer on everything but not enough to write your name on a black surface. Fireweed bothers a lot of people and sometimes that can get kind of bad. A gust of wind and you get a haze of yellow blowing everywhere. It makes the spider webs look kind of alien and makes them have to spin new ones, flying insects don't stick to pollen. We're just starting to see pussy willows but it's still pretty early, a hard frost could kill off smaller early willows. We're in the midst of the spring light rush right now. Daylight hours are gaining about 6 mins a day, almost 2 hours a month. 3 months ago we were seeing a bit over 4 hours of daylight, 10am sunrise and getting dark at 4:30 pm. You can tell it's light earlier and stays light longer every day. It really is a rush. I don't think about fall this time of year, don't ask! Frosty The Lucky.
September 13, 2025Sep 13 I hope the gentleman from Portland had some buyers. I miss my old I Forge Iron Tee-shirt.
October 5, 2025Oct 5 I haven't been active on this site for years. I can on guess that it is because we made a move from Maine to North Carolina and that upset a lot of our routines. Well yesterday I was scheduled to participate in a local festival and while preparing for that I had to find the right clothing to wear. I planned to sell some of my products and do some blacksmith demonstration so it had to be blacksmith related. I came across several possibilities, one said I Forge Iron.com of the front which I had bought on this site years ago and recall only wearing once. So I picked it. The back says "Blacksmiths Without Borders" and has all the continents of the earth displayed. It brought some comments from folks who didn't realize such a thing could exist. In any case it brought me back here.
October 5, 2025Oct 5 Good to see you posting again Pat. I hate moving, it messes everything up for sometimes e v e r. Are you going to get set up again and do some abusing of HOT iron? How'd you do at the festival? Frosty The Lucky.
