October 30, 20187 yr Does anyone know anything about Maxon Premix Burners? Someone gave me this and they said it's a gas forge. I have no use for it so I'm planning to sell. Any idea how much it's worth? It does get power it's just too rusty to work. Thanks!
October 30, 20187 yr Less a forge and more some sort of crucible furnace would be my guess. I'm not a casting guy, though, so that's as far as I'm willing to speculate.
October 30, 20187 yr First of all, where are you located? It would also help to see a few more photos taken from different angles, as well as photos of any additional data plates or other text/markings on the unit. Al (Steamboat)
October 30, 20187 yr Crucible Furnace for foundry work; not blacksmithing. You might investigate over at alloyavenue.com which is a set of forums for casters. Worth depends a lot on it's condition and LOCATION. (Like a used car knowing if the engine and transmission is in working order makes a huge difference in price.)
October 30, 20187 yr There are some IFI forum members who are involved in casting, so I think it would still be helpful if you could supply some additional photos and your location information. It doesn't hurt to post inquiries on more than one forum. Actually, depending on your location and other factors about the equipment, I might even have some interest in it myself. Al (Steamboat)
October 30, 20187 yr Author I'm in North Carolina. One of the plates is hard to read but it says: 2073 MFD. by Maxon Premix Burner Co. Muncie, Indiana USA here's some pics

October 31, 20187 yr Looks like a tangential-entry burner, which I think could create a swirled flame around a crucible lowered into the furnace. Hard to say about value and condition. Shipping would make it cost prohibitive for me, but someone might be interested in it as a rebuild project. Good luck with the sale. Al (Steamboat)
October 31, 20187 yr The motorized blower with built-in rheostat is pretty cool. If that still works, you might find a buyer for that by itself, especially one who might like it for use in a solid-fuel forge.
