Beardedblacksmith
I’ve had this vice for about 2 years now and I have no clue what brand it is. Was going to see if anyone had some sort of idea. It came out of a railroad rounding house in Idaho. Thanks in advance!
Fatfudd
Probably a Columbian
Lionel h
I’ve got an indian chief that looks like it’s twin . Clean it up you may find some markings on it to id it.
Beardedblacksmith
Sweet I was thinking one of those 2. Where would the markings be at?
beaudry
With the paint you can clearly see the parting lines on the front and back jaws/legs as well as the screw box ,so I would guess that it was drop forged . Maybe a Columbian but the screw box and mount suggest otherwise. Nice vise in any event.
ThomasPowers
And of course the screwbox and mount may NOT be original to the piece. I've done marriages myself and have mentioned that you used to be able to buy replacement screws and screwboxes from the Sears Roebuck catalog 100+ years ago. MC Hammer
Yes, please clean that paint off and get her looking nice so we can see it better. Looks like a nice big vise.

The mount plate wilk say it or half way between the jaw and screw. Dont sand the paint cause the indian chief mark is very light and easy to sand off.
