Trenton or arm and hammer?
Beardedblacksmith replied to Beardedblacksmith's topic in Anvils, Swage Blocks, and Mandrels
Its definitely at least #390 I cannot even get it to budge from a deadlift. Its 36 long by 14.5 tall and 5.25 wide. I can’t find marks anywhere I think on the foot I see a little bit of numbers but im not entirely sure -
Does anyone know a brand? Im guessing trenton or arm and hammer. I can’t find any marks besides under the forged welded plate on both sides it stamped. #390 let me know what you guys think thanks in advance! It has handling holes in the front and back.

Does anyone know a brand? Im guessing trenton but I could be wrong. Let me know what you think and what the weight is

Its after 1908. They started to put England after 1908.
-
Sweet I was thinking one of those 2. Where would the markings be at?

I’ve had this vice for about 2 years now and I have no clue what brand it is. Was going to see if anyone had some sort of idea. It came out of a railroad rounding house in Idaho. Thanks in advance!

Its made after 1908. You can tell by the stamp. They added “England” after 1908. -
Oh haha I’ve heard both but yeah that makes sense! Thanks for telling me

Got this little soderfors anvil and would like to know more about it. Is it casted or forged? And an estimated date range. There is a mouse hole in the back of the anvil and nothing in the front. Thanks in advance - Beardedblacksmith

Sweet thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it. -
I got this little peterwright anvil can anyone estimate the age? All I know it’s before 1908 from the stamping. But the horn makes me believe it can be before 1900’s. But I don’t know

Looks pretty decent. I wanna find the manufacturer and just buy it directly and have them ship it to Las Vegas NV. -

Casting an anvil

If you get one casted make it from 8620. That steel hardeneds well and its really strong. Im no expert though just my opinion. And I personally would do a german style anvil. 2 horns is very helpful while smithing. -
John Brooks anvil info?
Beardedblacksmith replied to Beardedblacksmith's topic in Anvil Reviews by brand
Sweet thank you for the info. I got a little 56 pound brooks anvil in excellent condition. I love it already. Great little anvil for my collection! It still has paint on the face. -
Wanted to see if anyone knows what kind of steel brooks anvils are casted out of and what time period they were in business for. If you have any info it’d be greatly appreciated!

Thats a good idea Thomas And dragon that is a possibility
-
Yeah thats what I thought I can see a small line where the forge weld is. I was sure if it was repaired. And all 3 holes are threaded should I just stick some bolts in it?
-
Makes sense. Haha do you know how Peter Wright anvils were made?
-
Oh haha thats funny but does the value or anything change about the anvil? The face looks brand new.
