What's the width of the jaws?

A spring and mounting hardware are not bad to make. I've made a few and even a couple handles. There are a couple ways to make them. Choose what works best for what you need.

they are 4.5". I am looking forward to making the parts I need but first I am working on all the other stuff I got at that yard sale, really cheap.

Nice haul.

I love the old metal fans.

cool old sharpening stone. Shame about the groove someone put in it. Looks like it might have a chip about to come off because of it as well.

yes I won't be using the wheel, it's just for display. I thought about what could happen if that wheel came apart..........noticed there is some kind of err, walnut guard down there in front of the seat.

They are not supposed to spin fast enough to fly apart much. They are for touching up edges not for removing masses of metal.

Hah, if I had one I doubt I could not give it a try. :)

I have a treadle sewingmachine base that I have been wanting to turn into something useful for years. Fortunately I have it burried in storage so I don't have to rack my brain anytime soon. Treadle powered die grinder?

So I should stay away from the Binford Small Block Chevy Bicycle Grinder Adapter Kit?

Great score!!!  We all dream of yard sales like the one you found.

With a natural stone wheel---YES  To get FPS for major grinding they used huge stones turned---by waterpower in the old days---fairly slowly in RPM. The diameter gave the speed to the edge.

I haven't cleaned the post vise up yet but I did test it out and it works great. I found some printing on the screw box, I am wondering if it is a replacement screw box? No printing anywhere else on the vise.
