the iron dwarf
got a bit of 4140 recently and have started work on it its about a 6" cube ( 150mm cube ) first tried it out and it works ok next will clean it up a bit and add a different rad to each edge on one face, the opposite face is left with sharp edges. on one side a couple of holes will be drilled for punching etc and some small divots made for riveting
Daswulf
On the holes, will you be drilling straight down then a second hole angled up from the side to meet it or drilling straight through?
Charles R. Stevens
Might consider 2 radie a side. That's 3" as to your prichel holes, one can undercut it as well as cross drill. With 6 working faces you can have a bomb multi tool.
Lou L
Glen from GStongs uses something similar but he machines them quite ingeniously to make excellent anvils. If you have access to a mill you may want to look at this video for ideas.
Donnie
I use a block anvil. I've had several London patterned anvils. Never really used the horn. Turned hooks and scrolls off the edge. Always punched holes on the face. To each their own. A block anvil works for me.
Jackdawg
I have to admit my lump of steel like this (200 high, otherwise the same) gets more use than my anvil. I am currently on the look out for an even bigger one.
the iron dwarf
4 edges with different radii plus the big one on another 4 and 4 sharp edges, some useful holes and divots for riveting and punching, 2 flat faces
the iron dwarf
the holes only go about 2" deep but I consider them useful
