My First Spike Tomahawk

that is a great first rr spike tommahawk! if i can make a suggestion you might want to use a hot chizel to start the hole then use a drift to finish it... you end up with more meat around where the handle is going thru also you can use drift left in hole to draw down more of the side to give the eye area more "height" . good luck!

Smokeman, it's hard to get that blade much wider than that, by hand, isn't it? Takes a LOT of pounding! I use the teardrop drift, on mine. Open my post vice and drift down between the jaws. You did a very nice job, for your first one. My first one didn't come out nearly so nice. Keep it going.

I upset the blade end a couple of inches before drawing it out. Start drawing the blade by hammering the upset end edges back toward the body of the hawk. Upset first--split for the handle then draw out the cutting end. Then I finish the eye. A picture is in the gallery.
