how do you tell the tempeture of your fire?can i get a temp. gage?and just stick it in the fire?i use coal. thanks..

i pick up coal and coke on the railroad tracks here i mix it i dont have any experience with anything else and not much with this.but i know it will melt a railroad spike.here is a video of it burning. YouTube - fire for heating steel

i made me a little forge in the ground.and i got a RR spike pounded flat..as soon as i get paid im gonna build a good forge.and an anvil.and hammer.i used a claw hammer and a RR plate.

yeah like flint.its a little harder to get here.but i run across it now n then.

im not sure if i spelled it right.but i was wondering if any of you have ever used it.its not like regular coal it dont slab off with an ax it busts like rock.we never liked burning it in our heat stove cause it burned to hot..
