Worshipdrummer
Has anyone tried any kind of anti-rust coating (OTHER THAN OIL) on your non stainless knives? If so what and how is it applied?
ThomasPowers
renaissance wax, various gun compounds, intentional patination, etc...
John B
The higher polish on the finish, the more resistance to rust starting, then wax/oil regularly
otto
I like to use horseradish to patina blade. Seems to not rust so far.

Otto if you would, describe the process a little, unless you are yanking my chain, I am interested.
ThomasPowers
Variation on the mustard patina, which you should be able to find in a search. Think of how the old high carbon steel cooking knives blades looked after long use.

otto
The horseradish patina is easy. I do it on some of the knifes I make. You polish the steel up a bit then you dab the horseradish on the bare steel. Leave it on for 10 minutes wash it off with water. Do this a few times. I usually do it 4 to 5 times for a knife. It will give a dark patina like an old carbon steel kitchen knife. I read about it in the 50$ knife shop book. He also said he uses mustard. I have not tried the mustard myself though. I actually thought of trying it, now I may...Thanks
Locksmithjoe
I usually use renessaince wax on everything from tip to butt. Always a nice luster then. If it is going to a new home I use either beeswax and give them a small piece so they can clean and wax it themselves.
Worshipdrummer
I like Beeswax, I use it in leather crafting and in making bowstrings. So you just rub in on and buff it in I guess. No heating?
