September 19, 201510 yr I'm a really big fan of post apocalyptic movies or tv shows. I've been making my knives using scrounged materials, trying to make them look like they came out of Mad Max, Book of Eli, or Fallout. None of these are meant to be pretty, I've left them a little rough on purpose for effect. Anyway, here they are. This first one's a big heavy machete, made for chopping zombie bits. Distressed diamond plate bolster and the scales are an old Kenny Rogers record. The handle on this one is plywood, construction paper, and elkhorn. I'd never used plywood on a knife before, but with this style, I thought it worked. This one's my favorite, so I decided to keep it for myself. The scales are elkhorn, with a diamondplate rear bolster and copper wire wrap on the front. The blade's 1/4" thick and heavy. I love it, though. Not exactly a pair, but they look pretty similar. Hickory scales. This one started out as a lawnmower blade, if the star on the end didn't give that away. And the last one, not post apocalyptic-themed at all, just a little knife made as a gift to a friend. Pink and purple micarta with brass pins.
September 19, 201510 yr That first one looks just scary wicked as a slasher. It's just plain intimidating! the rest aren't quite what I'm into but they do look well done. What material are you using for the blades? Old leaf springs?
September 19, 201510 yr Author Leaf springs and lawnmower blades. I was given a stack of 25 lawnmower blades, so I figured I'd put them to use.
September 19, 201510 yr This is a whole new style of knife/weapon to me. I must say that they all look creepy vicious to me but nicely done as a working theme. (Zombie flicks are not high on watch list)
September 20, 201510 yr I dont know how you picked a favourite out of that lot mate, I like them all. Good job mate
September 27, 201510 yr You have some great classic profiles disguised with unconventional materials. I especially like the knife you kept for yourself, as well as the one pictured upside down in the picture you described as "not exactly a pair". Outstanding work! How do you achieve the dimpled texture? Ball peen hammer? Robert
September 29, 201510 yr Some nice blades there, definetly look like somethin out of mad max or the like, well done.
September 29, 201510 yr Excellent work, I really like the machete look good enough to put on display and more than capable of cutting a path through heavy scrub.
September 30, 201510 yr Author You have some great classic profiles disguised with unconventional materials. I especially like the knife you kept for yourself, as well as the one pictured upside down in the picture you described as "not exactly a pair". Outstanding work! How do you achieve the dimpled texture? Ball peen hammer? Robert Yep, ball peen. Just hit it a little harder than I normally would to make it look a little extra rough. Finished these 3 about a week ago. I liked the little one I gave away, so I made a few more like it. Edited September 30, 201510 yr by neg
October 16, 201510 yr Those would make handy EDC's. Also really eye-catching. I really like the tails! You could add a lanyard to two of those, or not.Robert
July 14, 20178 yr It might sound dumb, but I'm a noob, and was curious do heat it up and hit with ballpeen and do edge before or after heat treat?
