Ohio Rusty
I made this bowl and ladle hammer from a railroad spike and polished the face. The curved shape makes forming the sides easier as you don't have to hold the hammer handle on a higher angle. The design comes of a 16th century armorers hammers I found in a book. (Somehow this post became a duplicate posting from my members projects post -- not sure how that happened --- MOD -- can you delete this one?) Ohio Rusty The Ohio Frontier Forge S.E. Farmall
Do you remember what book you saw the original in? Looks like a nice hammer
Benton Frisse
I like this, I'm going to have to try making one. I've got railroad spikes coming out of my ears. Did you do any hardening or anything to the face?
ThomasPowers
I much prefer the dome headed railroad bolts to make dishing hammers from and I generally put the eye at the far end so I can get deep into dished items without hitting the edge of the item on the handle of the hammer. ausfire
That's a very nice piece of work. I have loads of spikes too, so I might try that. (Make a change from spike bottle openers.)I'm guessing that you hardened the business end.
