June 17, 201313 yr I would like to try out a brazeal style rounding hammer after watching some videos. I like the round and flat dies on the same hammer. Can't find any in the usual places. Does he sell them?
June 17, 201313 yr Take a class with him, first thing you'll do is make one of your own before noon..... :)
June 17, 201313 yr Dave Custer sells Brazeal type turning hammer, I don't know if Brian does though. You can buy commercial turning hammers at farrier supplies. but the very best deeal is takig a class with Brian, you get all the tools and lessons in how to use and make them. It's a win win. June 17, 201313 yr Author I wish I had the time to take a class. I work a lot of hours, have limited time off and have 5 kids from 11 to 2 that make be heading off to MS for a few days unlikely.
June 17, 201313 yr I have also really been interested in rounding hammers since seeing his videos. I hope to forge my own with him one day. Its not the same, but just for something to tied you over, you can do what I did and round off a hammer with a grinding wheel. So far I have taken a 2 lb engineering hammer and rounded it. I plan to do the same with a 3 and 4 lb. At less than $10 each from HF you can afford to play around a little.
June 17, 201313 yr Nathan Robertson makes a nice rounding hammer in different weights. Nice tools, well made and fairly priced.
June 17, 201313 yr If you want a good commercial rounding hammer made by a Master Farrier contact Jim Keith, they are a top notch hammer. He lives in Tucumcari, NM, just Google him.
June 18, 201313 yr Also, I know Brian does sell them because I asked about it. They are $250 (same price as spending a day with him). I am hoping I'll be able to spend a few days with him within the next year. Cody
June 18, 201313 yr Can you arrange to attend Quad-State in western OH in late September? Lots of folks selling really nice hammers! (and I go from NM when I can and a friend flies in from the US Virgin Islands; other friends drive from eastern Canada; shoot we've even had a fellow from NZ show up!)
