Steven Fabrizio Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 I have these two hunks of metal 18 x 7.5 x 2. They were tool decks (don’t know what else to call them) in a machine shop. They were given to me I have lots of ideas but maybe your idea is better! Just checking! The only anvil I have right now is a harbor freight one so that is where I may start with one of them. Fun answers welcome!! PS NO you can't have them! Quote
Glenn Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Looks like a swedge block to me (grin). Use the flat spaces as an anvil. Brian Brazeal used something similar as an anvil. do a search and you can find a photo of his or LDW's anvil and stand. Quote
bajajoaquin Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 A 76-lb piece of steel? I'd take Glenn's lead and use it close to as-is. It looks like both of the 7.5" sides are identical, so I'd be tempted to make one into a flat face and use it on edge that way. Quote
John McPherson Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Sell them and buy some steel toe boots to wear in the shop. Other than a Brazeal style swage tool anvil, some nice jeweler's or bench style anvils could be made like this one (found on the net). Quote
pkrankow Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Looks like an anvil to me. How is the rebound? Phil Quote
Larry H Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 save one flat surface for projects you need square and level....lamps,candle holders ect... good thing you had your safety sandals you wouldn't want to drop anything on your foot without them !! Quote
ThomasPowers Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Already started towards being a swage block if you have free access to a machine shop! Quote
