  1. Why yes it is unfortunately in her travels the jaw inserts are missing. Lucky i have a machinist friend that is making some new ones for me. I am, have a 250lb fisher, 150 lb HB, one post vise, some tongs and odds and ends. I agree man, im very fortunate to have found and been able to purchase these things all in one go. Blessed is a better word.
  2. Thanks George! This syle of vise does need the use of a spring to lift the lever. The pivot point is very far forward. I found some pictures on the site of a few of these exact vises. Now to find a period correct spring or make one Looks like they came with a bunch of inserts. I can see where i will be using this alot once i have a few jaws made for her. Also feel silly for just now figuring out the adjustable block is actually a adjustable upsetting block. Boy i feel smart. Lol
  3. I like it fairly dark wile forging. Unfortunately ive been doing more tool restoration than hammering on hot iron as of late. Still have quite a few hammers to handle before I can get back to work.
  4. Ok thanks a bunch! I had wondered if that was the case. Ill polish the pivot and lever.
  5. Love that vise! Shes a beauty!!! Great job on the restore as well!!
  6. Here is a Well bro's vise made in Greenfield mass. Does anyone know how the spring set up us supposed to work. It has none but it definitely needs at least two to function. Its a joy to have in the shop. I have a bungee cord on it now to make it function. Also what is the cogged apparatus for? My machinist is making me a new set of brass jaws for her as we speak.
  7. Agreed Frank !! Think I will pass that on on to my kids. Onto project number two! It is in much better shape though. Just a take down and wire brushing will make her shine. Swiming in posts! Year ago i couldn't find one now I have a collection LOL.
  8. Great start up kit for a new guy. Smoken hot heller 2.3/4 lb rounder there as well.
  9. Found some punched in marks. I can make out 1867 and a few letters. Maybe 1866 above that?? Last two letters are EY 1867 Any idea of maker? Has 90 stamped in as well. It weighs 98 lbs 6" jaws Yes she did arkie. Im stoked it turned out so well! Alot of work but i think she deserved some love!
  10. Disassembled and ready for electralicis?? Used the batery charger to loosen the rust. Worked like a champ! Look at that screw!! Not sure i can sell her now lol !!
  11. This one was in the pile i brought home from conneticit. Looked like she spent many years buried in some yard lol. But when i opened her up the screw and box looked like they were new. Couldn't help but spend a few days bringing her back to her former glory. ENJOY! Had already cleaned her up a bit before i had taken any pics. Sorry
  12. Thanks a bunch for posting this JHHC, Im on a heavy plate hunt so i can build one myself.
  13. Near 150 lbs you guys were correct, really rough forging on the base. Im thinking h-b as well. Correct me if im wrong. Thanks guys! Great rebound and rings great with no dead spots. Now to find her a new loving home lol
  14. Wow look at how far she has come!! Feb 19 June 26 Will post some pics of some small changes to the forge. Fire pot was to large! I made a insert and built a grate to keep the coal up out of the inlet. Works like a champ!
  15. Ill weigh it when i get home and do some wire wheel work. Will post some better pics as well. Thanks guys

  20. Good to see you as well. Work has taken over my life. Havent had much time to do much, but make sawdust. Think ill give that little anvil a try as a fishing sinker tomorrow. Come on it cant be completely useless lol!!! Wait untill you all see what followed me 900 miles to get home. Yall wont believe it. Will post tomorrow but i can tell ya it was worth driving for 3 days.
  21. This nice little hardy anvil followed me home the other day. Cute little bugger huh?
  22. Only advice I have is, talk to your leaf spring soothingly wile heating it. You must have made it mad at some point. Jokes aside, start on much smaller work. Some 3/8 round stock and make a s hook or something. That spring steel moves hard. .....also if that is the piece you were thinking of making a hot cut out of, it is a very poor choice.
  23. Definitely feeling some forge and tool envy!! Very nice setup and your defiantly comfortable, rocking the jammies at the forge! Lol. Happy forging! Brian
  24. Nice! I've been looking for a large peen myself.
