  1. Just throwing ideas out there. Maybe forge a tree of sorts an have the tops hold the smaller rocks. I know the bottom pic is Wood but would be a fun project for the forge. Probably nothing at all what your looking for lol.
  2. Amazing artwork! I don't know what to say other than outstanding craftsmanship.
  3. Anyone know where a guy can get coal up here in de swamp? I found a source but he's a 3 and a half hour drive. I live in North West Michigan. Pic is a bug. Everytime I post a old post pops up. Do love the temper on that weight though lol
  4. I never sell much of anything. everytime I have, I need it soon after and have pay twice what I sold it for lol.
  5. Great find!! I wouldn't hesitate to heat iron in that forge. Appears to be mostly cast. Very cool old forge!
  6. Great idea! I have a ss sink in my treasure pile. Been trying to find a use for it.
  7. Rite on thx Thomas! I had a pretty good pile to start with. I need some fire bricks to adjust a bit. Wonder if the bigger box stores carry them? Also started with charcoal out of the boiler. That sure doesn't last long. had the forge 40' from my stand that was another problem lol. Put on a few miles trying to form that to the stand.
  8. It was still in my hand, just setting it in as I took the picture. I did keep my fire low because it was super late and I didn't want a huge fire to have to wait to go out. Was a long day. 16 hour day going when I took that picture.
  9. I put the word out I wanted a anvil, but i got impatient quickly and bought the one I'm building the stand for. Got a call the day after and got a smoking deal on a 400 lb columbion. Literally the next day I come home from work and a 176lb mint arm and Hammer is setting on my steps. Free! No anvil to to many in a few days lol. Seek and ye shall find it guess lol. Couldn't give up. Here is the first piece I've forged. Not much to look at lol. 7 Forge worked great though.
  10. Well she works! Needs a few adjustments. More pipe, need a plate on the top of the inlet to help funnal and I think I'm going to move the hood in 2" Not super proud of my first forging project but hey I didn't have a anvil. In hindsight I should have just put it on the floor. Nothing like starting with half by 2. Was really happy with the heat time on a long piece but boy does she like her fuel! Fan on low is a bit much for a small fire too.
  11. I give for the night. 9 hours at work, 4 hours on this stand. Should have been a 3 hour job max!! Need to forge the last two pieces of the top. But I'm whooped Looks good up there and my hammer lands flat on stock.
  12. A Tripod is more stable because it only takes 3 points to define a plane. If a forth point is added it is actually less stable. I spent the night cutting it back apart as it was to tall. After some super great advice I tested it with some soft Wood. Heel of the hammer on half inch stock. I originally went for a face hight between my wrist and knuckles. To high for me. Simple Stand turned into a ton of work! But it will be rite when I'm done. I hope anyways:)
  13. Lol ok , glad we have that clarified. Back to lurker mode. Peace
  14. Stellar work! I had a half dozen of those in my stash two days ago but I drove them in the shop walls for hanging tools. Your use is way better : )
  15. Tell you the truth frosty I don't know, the only anvil I use much atm is quite tall. Face is around waist high. I find that great for small delicate projects. A bear for really beating the xxxx out of something though. This one is going to get the heavy hammer work. One because it's a pretty heavy anvil and second is its already beat up pretty good. So I left it a touch low. It is about midway on my closed hand. I posted that wrong in the previous post. Lord willing I'll fire up the forge tomorrow and try it out Keep the ideas coming guys !!!
  16. 32"to the face just above my knuckles. I was just looking at those pics again. The 3" square tubing looks like tooth picks as well lol. Thanks kozzy, I will add some bracing maybe incorporate a small shelf or something. Seems I can never have to many flat surfaces to collect my junk!
  17. I filled the legs with a few handfuls of Sawdust, used Oil and worn out saw teeth to deaden some sound and add weight. (I'm so going to forge weld some teeth when I get time!!) Preheated the plate just for good measure. Left the forge side plate full size for upsetting longer pieces. I think the big guy likes his new stand..... It's not finished yet. Tomorrow I'll get some tool holders and anvil clamps glued on.
  18. Hope this is posted in the correct place! Since I'm waiting on parts for the rest of the projects I have started, I decided to throw a anvil stand together for Mr duddly! Had a old piece of 1 1/4 plate I found buried wile bull dozing, it's been hanging around my shop for Years. Pretty glad I kept the rusty slab. There was a fair amount of cussing getting it cut. Ran out of acetylene with 4" left. Being me I couldn't just wait. Way to big to fit in my band saw or is it???? Lol
  19. Thx guys! I'm very happy with the way it turned out! it's freezing rain like a dickens or I'd drag it out and fire it up. this weather has been awful!! was going to make that 3rd hand but I'd like to forge some of the parts. Maybe I'll do the parts during the test run, then I can set this and get started on the power hammer. so stoked about that build!! hopefully I enjoy blacksmithing as much as I do fabrication. : )
  20. She's closer!! tomorrow I'll drag it outside and give it a test run. wish me luck !
  21. If your in need of handle material or any Lumber for that matter.  I have black wallnut, ash, cherry, pretty much any Northern hardwoods you can think of forsale. custom sizes from 1/16" to  18"x18"x12' long are no problem.  email me if interested.

  22. Thank you so much for the 3rd hand design and idea! I'm glad I left one side open. I have put together some blue prints for my machinist and steel company for the kz100 style hammer I plan to start on after this forge is complete. I'll be forging sometime in 2020 at this rate lol sorry no forge updates, I've been so busy at work with these cold temperatures I've had to play welder, fabricator, hydrolic expert, electrician, and moderator for 30 mill workers. modern day blacksmith?? lol
