  1. 4x4 chunk of steel, no idea what ill do with it but couldn't pass up Free!! This fan came with it for the same price. Works great. Its a blessing as its 90 with air so thick you can almost cut it with a knife. Yuck.... Strange, i took the grinder to it and the sparks said cast, took a hammer to a corner n sure enough. Bummer....
  2. Im building a large assembly table for building a large gate for my driveway/railing. Think large ornamental! (Chain fall kind of projects) Space allows a 5x10 and I am having a series of hardie holes or stake holes cut in the top forge side. My questions are.... If you were building a table of this sort what thickness would you use? I can't afford much more than 3/4 and a 3/4x5x10 is already around 1150 lbs without a base. What advantages are there for a thick plate? 1/4 vrs 1"+? What features would you have cut into the plate? (Yes i would love a huge acorn but i cant find one lol). Im leaning towards 3/4" but do not want to throw money away if thinner will work or not make it thick enough! I hope to use it for the next 40ish years. Opinions please! Thanks in advance Brian
  3. And when you do finally one, anvils will seem to be attracted to you. Before you know it you will have more than you can use lol. I believe the main reason for this is because as you start using your first you unknowingly use TPAAAT. You start showing ppl your work, you are so excited you tell EVERYONE. Pretty soon word gets around and those unused "hidden" anvils start getting dropped off by friends and family.
  4. Hahaa, I knew that post was coming. Sorry frosty I literally went out bearfoot and snapped that abortion. Ill do better from now on. Thanks frosty, means alot that you dig my work. Tomorrow I'll take a proper picture.
  5. I broke out the black tape about a hour to late. Didn't help that the only good cross peen (the only one that would texture the way i wanted) is 4lbs. I thought id be able to finish that rack today. Def glad im not smithing to make money. Id be pretty skinny.
  6. Made some parts to a wine rack ive been storing in my head for some time. Ended up stopping at 11 grape leaves as i had worn a decent spot thin on my hamer hand. Havent had a blister in many years. Getting soft i guess! Crappie pic but i made one of the 4 bottle holders and the main vine as well. Hope to make the branches and some grapes tomorrow. What do you guys think?

  10. Nothing to do with this thread but a good wile back, i sold 2 nice 5' forklift tines for 100$ what i would do to go back and not do that sale now...... after watching my father not sell anything, always telling me "you never know when you will need (it)....... i finally learned my lesson.
  11. After far to many beers, I sort of finished these. lol
  12. Maybe if you anneled both and sliced them up into thin pieces With a bandsaw. Way to much work for me though. Id wait until i had proper stock.
  13. Hello Josh! I cant help with your question much as I have no experience with making canister Damascus. Although I have spent a good deal of time researching the methods. If you havent already done so, watch the skull Damascus video by big dog forge. He makes it look easy! Its a project I want to do someday, (After ive finished my press and own a power hammer). There are tons of projects you can do with that round stock. To name just a few tongs, s hooks, coat hangers, camping sets. Keep that anvil ringing! Heres to a better start at IF! Cheers! Lol Brian
