Oh come on Thomas if he lands the right contract he could sell the government nails at a $100 a pound, hammers for $500 and nail pullers for at least $200. All he needs is a very nice contract with a factory that can produce his wares at an accessible price…

I don’t know what a temilstik is I’ll have to check that out, but I did have those magnetic thermometers on the pipe, I was working on the other side of the shop so I didn’t see the temp rising, pipe got so hot that It burnt the paint off them and they fell off the pipe.

I didn’t want to say anything since this topic has everyone pretty well on edge but I think I will go ahead and share a personal experience. I’ve fought a flu fire caused by creosote build up from my wood stove in my shop as well as a burned out pipe that set the field on fire last winter, I was working in the shop and I started hearing a crackling sound and I looked around all over the shop looking for the sound but couldn’t find anything, so I walked outside looking for the sound and didn’t see anything, then I walked behind the shop and everything was on fire so I ran in the shop and closed the damper and then ran to grab a garden hose and a shovel and a fire extinguisher, I started spraying and beating down the grass and brush that was on fire. After the fire was out half an hour later I looked for the cause and I found the elbow had burned or rotted out and when the creosote caught fire it was dumping fiery embers straight on the ground. I yanked out all the pipe next day and bought all new, then I made a habit of inspecting the pipe every week, this fall I’ll be installing all new pipe agin wether it needs it or not. My only saving grace was the fact there was no wind to fuel the fire and my building is concrete cinder block with 10 foot side walls. Otherwise the story would probably have ended differently. The crazy thing was a member of the local rural volunteer fire department was building fence across the field and he never saw a thing while I was frantically fight the fire. I’m not an expert on anything to do with inside forge set ups because all the forges I’ve made I’ve ran outside. I don’t know what happens in exhaust pipes that comes off coal forges but what I can tell you is it’s pretty scary being alone fighting a fire in the middle of nowhere eastern Oklahoma knowing that even if you call for help it’s 30 minutes away before the trucks show up. I’m not qualified to say what’s right or wrong but whatever you decide to do with your setup please take your safety, your family and others into consideration. I apologize if this post steps on anyone’s toes I just wanted to add my two cents.

Wife’s been bugging me for a vacation maybe I’ll try and see if she will go for a few days up there. I checked those vises out today and the threads are cherry so I think they will work out alright, I already have some post vises but it’s always good to have spares.

It seems to move air alright I’m gonna call around the local junk yards tomorrow and see if I can find a pancake compressor. If I can then I’m gonna bolt this dude up to a 15” to 18” pan, I don’t know if it has enough ummf to run a coal forge but it will be a fun build and experiment.

Makes sense to me Goods, farmall do you happen to still have any pictures of the one you had, also Thats very interesting story about the salesman, mine doesn’t have the handle like the one in the advertisement so I think it has been removed at one point. I worked this afternoon to make a new clean out for it and drill out the frozen bolts. It’s not perfect but I think it’s gonna work.

Yes I bought it, I couldn’t pass it up because I’ve never seen one that small. I have heard rumors about little bbqs with blowers but I have yet to find one or see one. I have built a couple of little forges by cutting those cheap little pancake air compressors in half when they burn up and lining them with clay and welding legs on them. They make handy little portable forges that are easy to move, but I’ve always used stand alone blowers with them, so my idea for this little guy is to build another pancake forge but use this blower so it’s all in one piece. I’ll take pictures when I do my next little forge build And post them on here so y’all can see what I’m talking about.

Yes I bought and brought them home, I did a quick check over them and I didn’t see any cracks or repairs anywhere on them and the screw and boxes looked to be in pretty tight shape. I was a little worried when I saw the handles bent that they may have been stripped out but the threads looked good so I felt the price was fair. And they were complete, there were three more post vises that had some issues that I passed on for the moment but I’ll be going back and picking them up as well at a later date. On the trip to Alaska I think if I go through the trouble to fly up there to deliver a vise I might as well spend a few days checking everything out I’ve never personally been to Alaska but I’ve had friends go and visit and they all said they had a wonderful time. It would be a shame just to turn around and get back on the plane without at least seeing a few things.

Lol, kinda what I thought, I’ve never seen a blower this small. I dragged home a little candy Otto awhile back that I thought was tiny but it’s not near as small as this Buffalo.

Here’s a blower I found today along with a couple of post vises, it’s now the smallest blower I’ve ever seen, does anyone know what model it is? I’m guessing that it came from on of those table top or little portable forges.

I’m no expert but I’ve seen some orange colored stuff on the coal in the forge right after burning coal from the stigler Oklahoma coal mine, but I’ve never seen anything transfer to the metal. Steve is likely right its probably rust though, Do you have a picture of the orange deposit?

Here’s a couple of things I found today, two post vises for $75 dollars USA a piece. The rusty one is 5” and the painted one is 5.5”

Frosty if I come across another one while I’m digging around old shops and barns in my area I’ll make sure to pick it up and mail it to you…. I’d bring it myself but Alaska is a little to far from Oklahoma for a day trip.

Thank you BillyBones! Thomas do you have any pictures of yours I’ve never seen any other like this until now? Does anybody have any clues to who may have made these? Or were they hand made? I’ve been dragging home vises of all sizes, shapes and types for years but I’ve never seen anything like a mini post vise before. this one will hang on the wall in my shop with all the other rusty treasures that I’ve accumulated, but I’d still like to know any info about it if anyone knows anything.

a friend was cleaning up his shop and gave me this little bitty table clamp vise thats built a lot like a post vise. Not really practical for anything I do but I still thought it was pretty neat.

That’s a pretty sweet idea, most of my benches are plate steel and nothing moves very easily without drilling more holes. I agree with goods if your worried about the jaws you can get some thin aluminum or copper plate and cut you out some jaw covers with long tabs that you can bend around to hold them in place. I think I’ve even seen them for sale online too if you don’t want to fool with making them yourself.

I agree with anglesmith I believe it’s a old plumb, there was several post about 6 months ago on here talking about that makers mark you might look around the tool section and read the other posts, here’s one of my hammers that has the same mark.
