  4. your making me drool! I'm lucky if I can find a striker, and most of the time I end up the one striking. man I want a power hammer, and if I did it would probably be my favorite tool. is it a 25 pounder? Littleblacksmith
  5. was wondering if ya'll think this would work for a blower on a coal forge, or if it would be to powerful, or to weak. link removed I probably wont buy it Evan if it does work because its a little far for me, but will be looking for one in the future if it is capable of a coal forge blower. Littleblacksmith

    Starter tongs

same here! my first tongs I tried to make-notice how I said tried, were bolt jaw tongs, and didn't go very well. I recommend making a simple pair of tongs like flat jaw tongs. and then move up to bolt jaw tongs once you get the process down. bolt jaw tongs are just more to try and get the same (both of the reins the same). I hope you have fun in the journey of blacksmithing! Littleblacksmith
  11. yea, only 880 pounds. you beat me, I thought that 200 pounds was a lot(I buy mine in 50lb bags)! Littleblacksmith what size did you get?
  12. hello everybody, about a year ago I picked up a 100 pound Trenton anvil, with the serial number of 209302. I was wondering if any of ya'll could help me find out how old it is. I understand that it doesn't really change anything, I just thought it would be interesting to figure out. thanks! Littleblacksmith
  13. you hit the nail on the head! it looks really nice. The "fence" looks professional, I think you did the right thing by sending it to a fabricators shop.Yours is probably the nicest not-factory made coal forge ive seen. good work! Littleblacksmith
  14. now there's a good reason! maybe I need one too! Littleblacksmith
  15. no texturing? is it to thin to texture the petals? Littleblacksmith
  16. my favorite tool or thing would probably have to be my super sucker side draft forge hood. I do forge outside, but ever since my dad and I made it, forging has been MUCH more enjoyable. I do have some other tools I enjoy (100# Trenton, 5 1/2 post vice, my 3# cross peen that I've used ever since the firs day I forged, and so on) but the side draft forge hood is really helpful. I got the plans of anvilfire.com. the one in the pic is not mine but very similar, ya'll get the idea.
  17. if you don't have a pritchel hole that you can always use a stump or piece of wood. or even just a thick piece of scrap steel with a 1/2 in hole drilled through it Littleblacksmith
  18. what do you think is wrong with it, and maybe we can help? you could always use files. it will just take a little longer Littleblacksmith
  19. that's a one of a kind piece! talk about working with what you got! Littleblacksmith
  20. i like how the description of it says "big flatter" fits it pretty good. that's a really simple idea that I like. thanks that video was very helpful! I also like your dimensions you used. I guess ill just mix all of these ideas and come up with something that will fix my needs. Littleblacksmith
  21. In this topic, I ask for y'all to share with us your favorite tool to use in your shop and why it's your favorite. Littleblacksith
  22. Does anyone know the dimensions to use when forging a flatter? What stock size, size of face, size of striking end. I'll be using this flatter in the proces of forgeing hammers. Also if you could post a picture, so that I can decide if I like the design. Thanks! Littleblacksith
