off topic here... but heres an interesting article on boric acid Nano-boric Acid Makes Motor Oil More Slippery by the way... why add iron oxide to the flux... ? seems to me, that would saturate the solution quicker and reduce its effect... unless your trying to lower the melting point ?

the mp (melting point ) of iron oxide is quite high... borax lowers the mp ... as far as i understand.. ... once the oxides mp is low enough it will become liquid..

Hi Steve - that was my point... bader had absolutely no problems shipping right to my door step in less than 6 days.... and i payed up the customs charges and brokerage fee's..... there was no feathers ruffled... so i don't buy that the kmg guy had to jump through hoops to ship it up here....its not like its over sea's... just a little to the north.. besides... i've shipped swords and knives to england and the states... never had a blip of a problem.. its not like were shipping ivory or endangered sea turtles..

ok ok ok... picky picky... hahaha..;) guess i'm a little bent outa shape... as i wanted to get one of those kmg's long time ago... and because of the owners unfair bias prevented that... i'm a little resentful but i did get a bader 3 with vfd from the factory.... and that is one heck of a machine.... with customer service ! now that was worth the extra money...... Good business with good people... !

also the owner of the kmg specifically won't sell to canada.. .. i know, i tried several times to get one and it didn't matter what money i had... the answer was a flat out "no"... there are lots of clone plans floating around the net for it... and he doesn't seem to care....... besides, his design looks an awful lot like the bader... hmmm

purpose- lowers the melting point of iron oxide if the scale is included into the weld boundary... it would make for a weak weld

in a nutshell.. you simply find a public proxy located in the states... go to that site... then copy n paste the web address of the site you want to go to.. eg.. did a google search for proxy and came up with this Proxy.org - The Proxy Authority then picked a proxy on the right side of that site... which was: ProxyBoxOnline then you just enter the web address of the googlebook in that box on that site and click browse... and googlebooks now thinks you are in the states... and allows you to download their stuff.. G;)

you have to view through a proxy server in the states... then you can download googlebooks G

thanks Matt i shoulda been a little bit clearer... your right, the cast iron would go to mush under the hammer.. - low carbon steel is what i meant ... the cast iron aso isn't really worth the hassle to upgrade the face, in my opinion.. .. use it the way it is since you can still find deals on the oldy's .... last year i picked up a 170lb pw for 75 bucks... just have to be watchful for them;) G

you could "dry weld" the tool steel face on a large chunk of iron - same method used in making mosaic damascus... - clean both flat steel faces of oxides - weld a bead around the edge of 2 pieces to be joined ( this is to exclude oxygen ) - bring the piece up to a yellow weld heat and then sledge the face till you feel its welded.. . no flux needed - then heat treat it Greg

Alan L. told me to put household silicone under the anvil... and glue it down... then bolt it so it doesn't walk.... - the silicone deadens the high pitch right down.. Greg

if this is for a gas forge... you can pick up a PID from ebay for 40 bucks or much cheaper if you know what to look for ..... and a k thermocouple from omega ... ( iconel is good ) thats what i use on my heat treat gas oven... Greg

looking to set up a coal forge.. and i don't want to go back to using the small 6 inch stove pipe.. too smokey for me.. are there any cheap sources for pipe.. say 10 inch or do you just combine two 6 inch stove pipes..? Greg

just the opposite.. pull a vacuum on the vessel to draw in the fluid.. .. and make sure you have a vessel made for it.. peg is used to stabilize wood... its similar to antifreeze, just not poisonous G
