  1. That's awesome Das! We all have our niches in the blacksmithing world and from what I have been seeing from you I think you found yours. Keep up the amazing work! Also I am jealous, RT didn't send me a hammer
  2. And it was a HUGE breakfast. So he may just go into a food coma....we will see
  3. Hi Dave! Welcome aboard! I live with NickOHH so as he said, if you are interested you can always meet up with one or both of us!
  4. I will say while driving down the road all sortsa close to your shop I did inquire to Nick, "what about the beer we are suppose to bring for J?" So, you can't blame me for the lack of beer. Also, we did try to bring you coal but the place wasn't open at its normal time so that was also beyond my control. And last I checked we were suppose to have a cook off, which never happened, so who is really to blame here? I say...Nick.
  5. Lancaster you say? I heard something once about this mystical place, I hear they make some delicious pie.
  6. If I ask him if enters the "yeah I will get to it eventually" folder in his brain, meaning I won't have one for at least a year. But, if I just tell him, I can have it next time we forge. Haha
  7. I really like it! It would be cool to use as like a letter opener. I think I will make Nick try to make one for me.
  8. So I will say after forging on Sunday, (mind you this was my first time using a real anvil for entire projects) I really like the Fisher. I definitely prefer the horn of the Fisher over our Brooks. I am really happy I got my hands on this anvil.
  9. Nick and I were actually thinking of adding another stem off the base to hold a platform for these large candles I seem to be collecting. I will say making a heart is definitely much easier when the bottom is welded together, but I made do with what I had. I think I can officially call myself a blacksmith, I can do a forge weld and I can finish a project when the weld fails. I made a series of mistakes until I had something pretty, horray, forging!
  10. So Nick and I worked on a project together today. We made a thing with a heart on it. Haha Nick made the base of the sculpture thing while I made the heart part that got welded on the the base. Making the heart originally I had forge welded the bottom of the heart. But just as Glenn said would happen, the metal laughed at me. I wasn't going to let that ruin my half of the project, and I didn't want to start all over again, so I just adapted my work to fix this problem. The heart was pretty ugly at first and my phone died so I couldn't take anymore pictures of the progression. The heart was really a lot more extra work but overall I liked the final look!
  11. yes you need to make sure my new hammer is satisfactory on my new anvil
  12. I think I will call him Elmer P. Fisher. Seems like a cane shaking old man kind of name.
  13. I get more of a "he" vibe off of the anvil. Like a super old, long white beard, wise man. If the anvil were a person he would be sitting on the front porch with a pipe tellin kids to get off his lawn.
  14. It fits in my hand nicely, also look at that fine old anvil.
  15. It all started when NickOHH started watching blacksmith videos on YouTube. I was still focused on how to crochet a blanket with stripes. He ended up building the first forge out of an old BBQ grill and suddenly was spending all his time off from work with an anvil and a fire. I started forging because I like doing things with Nick and got very tired of sitting in the house by myself! Now I love forging and wish I had more time for it!
  16. We are going to start working as a team on projects, I just need to get better at somethings first!
  17. Thank you everyone. I really do love forging, I just wish I had more time for it! Sorry I didn't make a knife yet but I wanted to work on a new skill and I figured out a few tricks of my own along the way making that heart. I should post the picture of the heart Nick attempted yesterday but I won't throw him under THAT bus. Haha. I think a potted plant or a bowl would fit in the circle at the bottom nicely, I will have to test that theory after I clean up the scale and make it look all sorts of nice(r).
  18. I did my very first forge weld today all by myself! NickOHH talked me through the technicalities but yay me! I'm super happy about it because today was my first time forging again in 5 months. I made a heart stand thingamajig (honestly, I'm not sure what it is exactly but it is something!)Sorry all the pictures are sideways, my phone wants everyone to work out their neck muscles. :)
  19. Wow I didn't realize this post started picking up steam again! But all this talk of cookies and bacon I might have to make some maple bacon chocolate chip cookies. Cover all the bases, right?
  20. Oh man! I looks like I missed out on an awesome time. I wish I could have made it but as was stated, I had to work. I will not lie, I am very jealous that Nick got to go, I miss out on everything! Haha. Andrew does amazing work and I wish I could have seen it in person.
  21. I am going to try to forge my first knife on Monday, unless nick uses all the coal so I can't show him up. If I do get to forge I will post pictures of my attempt. Luckily I get to learn from Nick's mistakes so I can skip that phase of the process.
  22. I will make Nick the cutest knife ever! I can't wait to have time off to forge! And Nick better hold on to me, I have a knife now. Lol
  23. I am going to have to make a knife now just so I can make it better than Nick
