Got these finished over the weekend. The throwers are stock removal from 18" saw blade and a disc wheel. The damascus are 50 layer, three steel with elk, whitetail spacer and pewter cap, and a 69 layer whitetail crown with 3/8" brass gaurd.

Andy, the outer part of the roll was facing me, the center of the roll was perpendicular the anvil. The billet was drawn out in that position after being welded with the outer edge of roll laying against the anvil. Thanks for the comments. The next time I do one I'll take pics of the process.

You can also forge, file, and hand sand. You won't screw up near as fast with a file compared to a belt, bench, or hand grinder.
I also use a grizzly and hand sand. Saving up for KMG, someday maybe.
This is my first collaboration project. My damascus, 153 layer spring steel, saw blades, banding. Handle, file work, grinding and polish by Gary McCafferty /"Knives by Buzzard"
Enjoy

I have a 50# Mayer Bros. made in 1917. I use it mostly for working out pattern welded blades. I would someday like to get a 100# or 250#. Still trying to get used to the 50, I've had it less than a year.

This will be my first trip to SOFA. I'll be the tall guy helping Billy Merrit at the knifemaking demo. I've been taking lessons from Billy for a couple years and jumped at the chance to go.

I just finished a shut down job at a foundry and picked up two buckets of jack hammer bits. The refractory guys said they pitch the bits after they wear down. Most of them are 5/8" diameter and up. I figure I'll try some punchs and chisels with the smaller ones.

I've had one for over a year and for the money it's hard to beat. My only complaint is the contact wheel is a little close to the motor. When hollow grinding right to left the motor crowds your hand a little. If I can sell a few billets I'll try to upgrade later on. What sold me was the fact that you get a grinder and a buffer for one money.

Good looking blade Alan. I have a hard time taking the time needed to finish a knife.
Especially since I got the power hammer up and running. Keep posting pics and maybe someday you'll encourage me to finish one.
