  1. ah, yes welcome to the forum. The stuff is nice, however your girl friend is very fetching. Are you sure that is not a picture that came in a frame you bought at Target and you are trying to fool us. -again welcome; grant
  2. Good Morning All I found this discussion at Artmetal.com while looking for a video arftist recommended in another IFI thread. May fan the flames a bit. -grant http://www.artmetal.com/blog/studio23/2007/07/cnc_plasmacutter_torchmate_vs_plasma_cam
  3. Good Morning All Thanks 3BS for the sequence. I have been ask by some TopBar Hive Bee Keepers to make a hive tool for them. Once accomplished this technique should do the trick. tks grant
  4. Good Morning All 3BS -Very precise as usual. Will you please elaborate on the technique used to forge such nice square corners on your 90? Did you upset any material into the corner? -tks grant
  5. Good Morning Is this what January looks like in the Pacific North West? This makes me think I am not nearly as clever as I thought. -grant
  6. Good Morning All JunkDaddy, my friend pointed out this thread (thanks MattO). I like the start, but it has been a month - when do we get an update? tks grant
  7. Thanks RB that did the trick. -grant
  8. Good morning all How does one get into the chat room? Last night (Tuesday) I wanted to join the Blue Prints Chat and could not find the door. I assumed the chat room was in transition and went on my merry way. Today, however I saw a post form Glenn that stated 32 souls were presented 3 blue prints. So please where is the door? I think I'm a member in relative good standing and try to remember to take my beanos. -grant

  10. Fe-Wood -Since you are going to use scrap copper you might want to take a look at this UTube Video. -grant
  11. For us USA types in a pinch, I have found a fairly good selection at the larger Ace Hardware Stores -grant
  12. To Wedge or not to wedge. That is a question? Good morning all I hang out a little further north than Mister Powers, but still in a high desert. After reading, on this form, about Mr. Hofi's hammers and the fact that he does not use wedges but exclusively uses glue on his hammers I began using a hybrid method. I taper the lower portion of the contact area of the handle to match the lower hammer head taper and then straight to the end, really the only option from there. Then I glue using E6000 (Hofi has something special he uses) the handle in the hammer and finish with a glued wooden wedge to spread the top of the handle into the contact area. With a top hammer eye taper I couldn't bring myself to just use glue. Hammers that come with a handle I use until the head loosens enough to remove the head and then reset the handle as above. I have done this for several years and (knock on wood) have not experienced a loose handle. I do wonder if Mr Hofi's hammer eyes are straight? -grant
  13. Good morning all Here is our contribution the the sleigh bell thread. Clear Creek Historical Park (Golden Colorado) has an annual candle light walk (tonight) and part of the walk includes a stroll by the blacksmith shop. This year we decided to forge bells for the demo and this is the result. -grant PS I must run for now, when I get back I will resize the insert to a manageable size.
  14. Good Morning All BBBs -Nice work as always. Can one set a cluster of these holders on a table and burn drip-less candles without concern? -tks grant
  15. Good Morning All Thanks mcraigl for Mr Simmons contact information. It is cleaver of Mr Simmons to forge a 41 ounce hammer head then add a 7 ounce handle. Are you not a fan of rounding hammers is general or Erin's style of rounding hammer in particular? I assumed all you left cost guys were disciples of Mark Aspery and he certainly is an advocate of rounding hammers. Thanks again -grant
  16. Thanks Fe-wood. Do you have an E-mail address for Mr. Simmons? His Web page seems to be lacking any contact information. I would like to know significance of the "41". thanks again -grant
  17. Good Morning all Does anyone know the maker of this 3 lb rounding hammer or have any other information about it? Mabe Erin is looking for a hammer he made in one of your classes. Any who, I find a tool preformes much better if one knows its provenance. -tks grant
  18. divermike Does this mean you are left with 39 dollars for your entire shop -grant
  19. Good morning All Olcarguy activated this past tread "Show me your forge (solid fuel)" and as I was browsing the forges I saw civilwarblacksmith's picture and it seem appropriate to this thread. -grant
  20. Mutt Mr. Lorance's name, address, and phone number are in the pages with the drawings of the fire pot and clinker breaker in the very first post. Also, I assume the weight tables keep one form throwing away the brochure? Clever marketing ploy? They don't seem directly related to the product. Thanks jimbob for the heads up. -grant
  21. Good Morning All Please excuse me, I was attempting to bring the conversation back to the fire box, clinker breaker and swage blocks. I truly would like to know what the tables are for and the difference in the 2 pages. grant
  22. Good morning all What do the tables do for us? Also, are the 2 original pages the same? -tks grant
  23. Don, thanks for the link. I did not "get it" untill CurlyGeorge's second picture. -grant
