  1. Thanks everyone... The sheath is heavy duty but it was made to cant the whole knife forward similar to a OWB pistol holster so when he sat and rode it wouldn't jab him in the side and it was easy to get to.
  2. So it has been a good while since I have posted some of my work and thought I would put some of my recent knives up for your viewing pleasure. As always your thoughts and coments are very welcome and apreciated. This knife here is a special order from a local client who works on one of the ranches and brought me a rasp he wanted made into a knife with a special sheath for riding o his horse. OAL 7 3/4 blade 4" handle is dark walnut
  3. I know everyone has allready said it but I cant look at this knife not leave a comment saying how beautiful and well made this knife really is. I checked out your web site and im sure this knife will fit in very well with all the other well made knives I saw on there.
  4. that looks amazing great job! maybe at some point we can see a bluprint?
  5. looks mean so what is it made out of? I have had pins that looked similar and found I was over estimating the leangth of the pins prior to peening try making them a little shorter and they will still do the job but wont crack and split over I usually leave a 1/16 on each side of my scales depending on the type of brass rod im using. Hope it helps keep up the good work.
  6. looks pretty good so far cant wait to see the final product.
  7. that would be great for us smiths with no one around to lend a hand.
  8. As allways I am staring in aw at an amazing knife from Rich Hale great job! One day I might make a knife half as good as that.
  9. I live in Hanna wyoming in carbon county. its a small town less than 600 people there now but it is a close drive to work and its cheaper then dirt when you come from california with all its high taxes and crazy prices. Not to mention the gun laws jeez. I never new buying a fire arm could be so easy out here just a quik check of your background for a criminal history and thats it.
  10. Now I know I havent been on much due to the great move to wyoming from cali but I have recently set up the smithy and hammered out this little hunting knife for myself the dimensions = blade 4 1/4 long by 1 inch wide total length is 8 1/4 handle is dark walnut with brass gaurd the steel is D2. So let me know what you guys think of my first wyoming knife.
  11. Hey it looks like a knife in the making to me I think its great good job.
  12. looks good but when youre messing with that spring steel remember to use an oil quench instead of the water or super quench used on RR knives.
  13. Very nice, what did you use for the etch???
  14. i think it looks pretty good myself.I happen to enjoy finish work myself but i have often been called overly meticulous.so maybe finish work just suits me.
  15. mutt pretty much sumed it up i use vegatable oil to work the leather to a darker color and softer texture and when its all done i set in the oven for a few minutes and rub the bees wax into it to seal it and protect it.Mcraigl i will moving to carbon county in either elk mountain laramie hanna or cenntenial i used to live in that area when i was younger and have finally positioned my self in my company to take over a wind turbine site out there.
  16. not too bad for a first keep at it
  17. very nice i like the wallnut and have used it recently myself with good results
  18. hey everyone its been a while since ive posted last but i figured i would share this little finished peice since its gonna be a while before i get any more done as i am moving from california to wyoming in a few weeks. So this knife is made from 1085 hex stock with a mild steel guard and mineral oil finished dark wallnut the sheath is hand stiched and double welt with oil and beezwax finish. Tell me what ya think
  19. the kife is very nice but i would say the leather work is standing out just as beautifully. exactly how do you get that texture in the sheath in those cool designs.
  20. fe-wood my job is the repair and care taking of wind turbines that produce amazing amounts of energy here in southern california if you decide to go with an allternative energy the utility seems to be pretty accomidating these little 15-20 kw machines are poping up all over out here and ive heard nothing but good things about them and im pretty sure you can find and install up to 75 kw machines that are three phase 480v that could power three homes if the area has winds to run em on. I dont know how much you are willing to spend for a long term sollution like that but its something to look into.
  21. I must say i agree with CBrann i like my solitude and when im working on a project i tend to use the work as a type of meditation and focus. It is very fullfilling to work on a project and when im done and others see it and ask where did you get that and i tell em i made it with fire and hammer and they go wow i didnt think any blacksmiths were still around. The fact that i get to carry on such an old and reveared craft keeps me thoroughly addicted and no frosty i need no saving as of yet but if my addiction becomes overbearing i will surely contact you for your self sacrificing services.
  22. looks pretty good keep going if the flowers dont work out the first time dont let it stop ya try again untill its the way you like it.
  23. so i just finished the smithing side of this project a wine tree rack or vine wichever you want to call it so let me know what yall think any suggestions or observations are very appretiated.
  24. thanks everyone very much i have a lot to try, the dimensions of the meterial when starting was 3/8 mild key stock at one foot lengths with the twists and scrolled ends they come out to be apprx 10 inches long they will be used to connect four table legs that are also scrolled i'll post more pics as i move forward with the project this weekend.
