  1. My wife likes that to. What she likes even more is that I have begun to turn this hobby into a payin gig.
  2. Nice work on that hammer. I like the artistic license that you took with the peen end. Great work.
  3. Tech413 oww that sound like it was full of suck. Markb I wear gloves because as a professional welder for 12 years, I was trained to wear them as a matter of ppe, this protected me form burns from spark and arc. I just should have listened to myself and no even tried to wear them. At the beginning of the day the hole where about the size of .035 wire and by the time that I burned myself the had opened up considerably.(bout the size of a dime)
  4. I started today with a pair of gloves that really should have been in the trash. They had small holes in the fingers of the second and third fingers. Because the hole were so small and on my hammer hand I thought nothing of it. But, around three o'clock I went to take the steel cover plate off of the fire pot. I grabbed it with my right hand(which for me is my hammer hand) I burned my second a third fingers. It hurt a little and I thought nothing of it, but, I figured that since I had burns I would go inside and run it under some cold water. By the time I got inside, I was in extreme pain. I ran it under water and put ice and burn-gel. It turned all white and is really hard an sore. I think that next time I will throw out the xxxxxx gloves and go buy a new pair. I thought that I would share this with all of you as a PSA (public service announcement). Maybe I will put some pictures up later.
  5. looks good to me. Make more and each one will be better than the first. Gee all the work makes me want to go out and do some forge work, sadly I have to finish the drawings before I can though. Grrr stupid drawings.
  6. What are you using for a blower Luken. I like the Forge and Anvil. The anvil is a re beauty. On your pieces I like your scroll type work and the letter opener looks great for a first piece. Keep at it, as many have said here bangin away is the only way to get better at it.
  7. That is great. A picture would be helpful to us, so as we may, assist you in moving forward in your forging skills.
  8. You guys rock!. It's funny as a draftsman I can draw a scroll with a compass. It is a simple matter of what size of line you are trying to generate the spiral from. But when I am away from the drafting table, it seems that my brain is still at the table. In other words, "I haz teh dumb, I can not brain" Again thank you to all of the respondents for your help and suggestions. This is exactly why I chose to join IFI, because I saw quality and expedient dissemination of knowledge.
  9. Thank you to both of the gentlemen for there wonderfully detailed descriptions of how to make a scrolling jig. If it all works out ok that I might make it into a blueprint. Again thank you gentlemen.
  10. nice work. I do not know a whole lot about knives so I will not comment on that.
  11. I was looking for a BP for a Scrolling Jig. Does anyone know where I can find one?
  12. I have had one of these hoods for eight years. This was the best 1,300 bucks(now 1,600) that I have ever spent in my life. I feel like I have alot more energy at the end of the day and I do not have welder boogers. Now all that i have to do is quit smoking.
  13. I welded mine outta 3/8" Diamond plate that I picked up at the Junkyard. Pm me and I'll send you the drawings
  14. Great looking stuff, might bring down the close line though.
  15. I have been working with metal (as a professional welder) since 1996. I have had the "Itch" for sometime now. I love this stuff.
  16. I sold a Hoof pick and 3 Halter Hooks. I like the Flavor Flave remark. It is a great feeling.
  17. As stated above I had my first sale today. It wasn't much, but it is a start. I am really happy today.
  18. Thanks guys I am working toward making them good enough to sell. I have a little ways to go on that goal but I have time on my side.
  19. I don't have an xmas list. But new tongs and a guilotine fuller and spring fuller and a new hammer are on my list of things to do before xmas. One no smithing item on my list is to finish this sweater that I am knitting for my grandfather and I am making socks for myself to and a knit hat.
  20. Tongs are fun to make. The pair that I have pictured here sadly had a crack near the one of the jaws and broke I have already drilled the rivet and make a new half in about five heats.(seemed like about 15 min) I am working on a fuller so that I can make v-bolt tongs and I need a pair of link tongs and I have about twenty feet of wrought iron chain to work. Thank you to all who have responded to this post.
  21. Who do I make the check out to? My wife wants one she says"that's wicked pissha"
  22. Thanks I have worked through a bag now and I like it but I think that I am going to try and get some Bit. through my local feed store as I go there more often then the LWS and the hardware store is a little farther away that the Feed Store
  23. Just thought that I would share photos of my second pair of tongs.. the first pair died a twisted death.I started with 5/8" round stock and the plans to make them from the ABANA site. These work real well. I love them and I am going to make a second pair for thicker stock soon. Let me know what you all think. Best, Archiphile
