Amazing work. I've been planning to forge a dirk soon. Your sheath in particular inspires me!
  3. I'll have to remember that for next time.
  4. So, I went to get that anvil and I just got back. I arrived at the gas station we agreed to meet at 10 minutes earlier than we agreed to meet. So I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more. A grand total of an hour and a half of waiting. Finally I went into the store and asked to use a phone, I called the seller and guess what he said.... he already sold it. Darn him! He could have at least told me he sold it before I drove 30 miles.
  5. I am going to see this anvil tommorow. What is it worth? I believe it to be a colonial anvil and would like to know approxamitely how much I should offer for it. Thanks.

  7. This is a decorative punch with a handle that I forged today.
  8. How exactly would one go about making threads in a forge?

WayneCoe - "The most usefull tongs are the ones that fit the work that you are doing at the time." - My point exactly. they seem fit more pieces of steel than most other styles of tongs. except maybe wolfjaws.

I have found these tongs to be some of the most usefull in my collection.
  12. Some guys over in Chat wanted me to post a few pictures of a few random things that I have forged lately. So here they are guys. They may not be much but here they are. Feel free to critique anything that you see wrong with something that I have forged.
  13. Wow thanks Zahg! That is awesome! Thanks for the Drawings! That top drawing is how I think i'll build it. Now all I have to is watch craigslist for Corrugated sheet metal and chain link top rails. Thanks!
  14. I did a little measuring and it looks like i'll be needing an 8x8' floor space. I think i'll build a smithy which i can take each wall and the roof apart with just a few bolts. I think i'll make the frame out of 2x4 and then put sheet metal on it. Maybe I can even get the sheet metal from some old dilapidated barn...
  15. It does look like a welded repair on the edge there...
  16. ************************************ UPDATE *************************************** I have been using my anvil, without any repair, by flipping it upside down and using the bottom of the anvil as its face. Whenever I need to use the hardy or the horn, I simply flip the anvil right side up again. Then I flip it back upside down so that I can use the "face" again. Surprisingly the anvil is very steady upside down, though it doesn't look like it should be. I still do not know exactly what kind of metal it is made of, but I think, despite the fact that it doesn't look like it should be, I think, that it is cast steel. But honestly I don't care anymore what it is made of, all that I care about is that it WORKS GREAT!
  17. Haha! Good one Rich!
  18. The Blacksmith that taught me only ever told me one "Secret" I am not going to say what it was, because he told me not to tell anyone... Just let it suffice to say that in reality it is not a "secret" and many many people know about it and it can be found on the web. No I don't really think there are many "secrets" anymore. Those which "back in the day" would have been considered "secrets" are now either forgotten or all over the internet.
  19. I need to band my anvil stump (cherry) so that it does not crack/split any more. How do i do it?
  20. Those are both nice hammers! Now you got me interested in making one of my own!
