So as Royce Unruh said,him and I built new forges this week.I thought I would show mine :) I had the firepot cut from 1/2 in and the table from 1/4 on a plaz table(royces).All the other stuff was scrap I had layin around. I decided not to make a clinker breaker on this one because I wasn't sure about some of the details on makin one(aircontrol etc.) his forge has 3 pieces of mild flat welded across the air hole. Here are some pics this is without the side gates this is with the sidegates thoughts comments or criticism welcome :rolleyes: I will try to post some pics of it with a fire soon

  4. Well my shop is a hobby shop so right now im just happy to have an order :D . Thanks for the compliments guys the guy loved the handle and wants another exactly like it :D

  6. now THATS a nice lookin handle!!!Im guessin you used a swage for that but I could probly use a fullering chisel.... :D thanks for the ides keep em comin.
  7. thanks frosty, part of the reason I took 5 hours is becuz I took my time the other part becuz im not a fast smith yet. thanks for the tips I will use them,I searched for a cable twist on google and didn't find anything;could you elaborate on the subject a little?

  9. Hi guys I had a guy ask me to make a pull handle for a swinging door;he said he wanted something simple and gave me the dimensions.This is what icame up with, The dimensions are 14inx3in I asked 50$ for the handle,is that about right?
  10. here is a basic blacksmith hammer 40 oz blacksmithing hammer Find a spring or some other high carbon steel and use that hammer to make your chisels.

  13. I have modified some hf hammers and they seem to work fine
  14. I use a cattle trough;you can get them in about whatever size you want

As for tempering you can forge a mild steel drift then heat the drift and drive it into the eye,watch the colors run until u like them then quench to stop the process. hope this helps Rhett arghhhhh double post

  19. you could reharden and temper the whole head,but it sounds like you need to read up on that first

  21. Mackenzie,wasnt the 20lb sledge enough for you?I thought that was a pretty massive sledge and now u wanna get a bigger one :o lol jk.For those that wonder it is a 50lb lg thanks for the compliments guys.I am planning on forging more soon :)
  22. thanks it is just a shade under three pounds on my next one I will make the face a little bigger but this hammer is very nice to use
