  1. ok frosty,no I didn't know that, guys don't light your forge with diesel as it must be dangerous
  2. eddie, its called diesel  put a little on and that charcoal will be blazin NOT a good idea, see post below
  3. looks fine to me.The fire really doesnt care whether the steel is hardened or annealed, once it gets hot it is soft anyway
  4. David,Kyler and I get coke from the same place,L brand forge coke, the coke is fine and idk y charcoal isn't workin for him.Kyler,I use homemade charcoal to light my forge;I would think you aren't burnin enough charcoal to start the coke.I get 6 or 7 golf ball size chunks, put some diesel on one piece to help start it,light that piece and put it in the forge and start stacking the other pieces of charcoal around it.Once you get the charcoal burnin good, start adding coke(KEEP THE AIR COMIN!!!)within 10 minutes im ready to forge.
  5. those are nice lookin tongs. The reason I want to make nice tongs is that I will need the skills i learn from that while doing other smithing
  6. its a deal frosty thanks backwoods blacksmith
  7. as long as it heats steel well thats all that matters. I have a champion hand crank blower that I use since I don't have electricity at my forge Mackenzie I will talk to my folks and Royce and see if we can work something out :)
  8. thanks frosty and steve ,frosty this set works fine but lacme fine details like......good looks lol dcraven ill have to train them before I send them to you and that takes awhile...lol;as to your forge,i just built a new forge for under 150$its in the forges section. The punch probably took me less then 15 min total so im sure you can make one easily.

So I tried makin bolt head tongs and got a new respect for the guys that can them pretty.I will have to make some more pairs so I can make them look nice here they ARE I had to try them out so I made a punch real quick so what do yall think?
  10. You should buy some files they are a bladesmiths friend, once you try them you will b amazed how fast they actually work.Nice first knife btw
  11. ahhhhhh now see jim,Thanks for the compliment pjh66 if you look close you will see I have a cutout on both sides but I have the little door I built closed on the other side;also the sides are angle iron and I just cut out the top angle for the opening so it still has the bottom flat part for support:)
  12. Mac,I just built a forge, so far i just have 3 pieces of 14in. Square bar welded over the air hole. So far this Has worked great and every hour or so I just scoop out the clinker so no problem there. As to air control I have a hand crank blower so I can control air volume there. I suppose a triangle clinker breaker would help u control the position and size of the fireball though.. Rhett

  18. I use a chain on my Swedish cast steel and like Daniels it went from a ring to a thud(well not quite a thud but close)
  19. Frosty,at the moment I work in an open air shop(pole barn);so smoke really isn't an issue Also, the firepot is just under 4in deep this is about the right depth for me;I am afraid that if I put that pipe cap in it the firepot will be too shallow, ideas?
