I saw someone post an idea of wrapping the springs in leather. A actual gaurd may make more sense.

just finished site prep for a 24x24 bldg. I want to get ahead of the game and start planning the layout so I'm not moving large/heavy objects several times. Any good layouts on the web to look at?

You could send one out for heat treating and hardening. Build a stand and have them stacked and use it like an anvil. Problem is that you'll probably spend as much on getting the 120# object to the heat treating facility and having it done as buying a 100lb-ish NC or JHM. Then just use those drops under the anvil as part of the stand.

Made in China.... The shocking part is the price. $4k that's almost as much as a big blue. I cant believe that with the dying foundries here in the US that a hammer like this cant have MADE IN THE USA on the front and be competitive in price. I know its the machined parts that drive the price up.. Oh the joys of having cheap labor.

So I always have a bag or two around the house. Having haunted the "Egg" forum for some time the serious guys buy a pallet of charcoal at a time to save big $ and ensure they always have some on hand. Around here I can usually find.. Cowboy brand at Lowes $5-6 for 10lbs Royal Oak at Wally World $ varies usually 10lbs BGE brand (Royal Oak) at the "egg store" for $20 for 20lbs Qik Joe at True Value $12 for 20lbs (has an odd flavor at times)

My Dad gave me this he said it came from my grandfathers "collection". I have a project or two that are larger than my gaser and if I could get this back into operation it would save me using the torches to heat the metal. If anyone could ID it and give a few ideas and how to line it and set up a tuyere I would appreciate it. The white bits in the pan are from the lining of my gaser that conveniently fell off this forge the other day. I have a crank blower I was going to use and more than likely use natural charcoal the hardware store has 20lb bags for 9 bucks.

I called the local paint store and asked for a steel 5 gal. They asked me how many did I want. I built my forge from a 5 gal soda keg I picked up at the dump. Stainless steel 9" dia ended up being about 18" long after hacking off the ends. You can find used soda kegs for around $25 from a homebrew supply. Being a homebrewer I'm going to warn you that there a is big scare right now in the homebrewing community about soda kegs being bought up by China. The price has jumped 10-15 bucks a keg over the past 18 months. After seeing drago & slovarr do their ammo can build demo at ring of fire I have to say they are onto something. The deposit you pay for the keg when you get the beer doesnt give you ownership of that keg. Not returning a keg and cutting it up for whatever reason is stealing plain and simple. Those kegs cost around $400 each new. So your $50-$100 deposit is just a monetary version of your word that you'll bring it back. Whats the big deal it's Bud and they can afford a couple kegs...right? That's a great line of thinking and if only a 100 people a month think the same way thats a mere 1200 kegs a year. Only $48,000 Bud can afford that...Sure they can they'll raise the price of beer across the board. Next thing you know beer will be $20 bucks a 12 pack. If your getting dented kegs from a scrap yard just ignore my post.

What would be considered a normal amount of dragons breath for a gas forge? none? A few wisps? A steady stream?

Is the volume measurement based off the ID of the shell or the ID of the shell after kaowool?

I am thinking about twisting together three pieces of 1/4 round stock. To make legs for a pub height (40") table. I have a gasser forge that is set up with a back door to pass thru. I'm thinking I'll arc weld the three together at each end then heat a section at a time and keep putting one end in the vise to twist each section. I would appreciate any ideas one may have to keep this operation simple, painless and cost effective.
