  1. My wife and I are friends with Ron and Brenda......the blacksmiths on Surviving the Iron Age. The show was produced by the BBC. If you want a copy of the show you could try getting ahold of the BBC directly (http://www.bbc.co.uk/feedback/). I don't know if it's ever been made available on dvd though. I think we still have it on VHS somewhere as we taped it at the time.
  2. Hello JNewman. Thanks for including the link to your website. I mostly deal with Rob at Thak's at the moment, but perhaps you could give a rough idea as to what you carry. Hamilton is just down the road for me.
  3. Just keep at it. I did my very first forgeweld back in the winter. Strangely enough I tried welding rebar as well and wasn't very happy with the results. Since then I've tried forgewelding again and again. I'm still far from perfect, but I tend to think my welds are getting better.
  4. Heard back this morning. The hammer is still for sale and asking price is $3000.00 I've seen it in person and it's a nice piece of equipment. PM me if you're seriously interested. I have permission to pass along contact info.
  5. I'd gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today.
  6. I don't know how many have spotted it. There's been a bit of an update on the OABA site regarding this meeting. There's been an additional post stating that the Mill will have some limited quantity of coke for sale. They're asking 30 cents/lb.......bring your own bags or pails. Not a bad price really since coal from Thak works out to roughly 43 cents/lb.
  7. I know of a Clay Spencer tire hammer out Hamilton way that may be for sale. If you're interested I could make an inquiry for you.
  8. The U.S. seems to be the source for all manner of things. I've been nailed with some wicked duties when ordering out of the States, so I don't even consider that an option anymore.:(
  9. Thanks. I appreciate that. Btw....checked out what I thought was the new TSC store in Milton. It's actually called "VILLAGER by tsc". Nothing like the true TSC store that I've been to (been to the one in Kitchener). Saying that it was disappointing is an understatement.
  10. Congrats! I really do envy you. I have another 27 of being chained to the corporate wheel. (Now there's a depressing thought)
  11. Rockwood isn't THAT far away from me. I've never heard of Wards. Do you have any contact info for them?
  12. Are you talking what I need or what I want? There's a BIG difference between the two......lol! I've managed to find everything I really need at this point. But I'm always on the lookout.
  13. TSC is a good idea. They just bought the old Co-op in Milton. Last I heard they were still doing major renovation and bringing in new stock. I havn't stuck my nose into the store since the change of ownership though. I'll have to go check it out and post my findings.
  14. I never made it to Profarriersupply in person, but I did order their catalogue and talked to the folks on the phone. At the time I was looking for a firepot and a few other assorted items listed in the catalogue. They told me that most items like that are USA special order for them and that the prices listed are liable to increase due to the way the dollar is now and the fact that transport fees have increased. That conversation and the fact that they have bankers hours Monday - Friday only, kind of took care of that.
  15. Found that ad. I'm about 20 minutes away from Toronto. Judging by the area code listed, that fellow is located up in Sudbury though. About a 5 hour drive for me. Not gonna happen!
  16. The place is getting to be thick with Canadians....lol. Welcome aboard! Don't worry too much about messing up posts, we've all done it.
  17. Relocate to England? I'd be there in a heartbeat if I had the cash.
  18. I did a bit of poking around. Print. If you read past all the firearms restrictions it does get into knives and such.
  19. Good timing. Works out to be the weekend before trout open. I'll definately try to be there.
  20. I'm just curious. For some here blacksmithing is a profession. For others, it's a hobby. I was just kind of wondering what else other blacksmiths might pursue as a hobby/pastime. Myself, I also do a bit of hobby carpentry and I also make homemade wines and meads. Add that to work (and of course blacksmithing) and my other favourite pastime (fishing), and it's a marvel that the wife sees me at all sometimes. What do you do?
  21. About time someone else from Southern Ontario made his way here. Welcome aboard! Where are you located? I would agree that you should make a point of joining OABA.....it's just full of great people just waiting to be met. We just finished having a meeting at Waldie's in Milton back in February.
  22. I have GOT to try that. I've been making leaves, but never Gum Leaves.
