  1. It's mild steel, dunno what that would translate to exactly for you guys. That is worth a go, thankyou!
  2. I'm making some door/drawer pull handles. I'm using 10mm square stock. Using the rounded edge on my anvil i neck in 10mm from the end of the bar and go quite thin (~3-4mm) then draw the taper back. this leaves me a lump i can squish for the screw hole. As i'm finishing up the taper i'm finding the transition at the neck to be splitting. What's causing this, what can i do to stop it? I tried doing the second pair hotter which i think may have helped, do i need to go hotter still? Many Thanks
  3. that is a serious piece of hardware! Love the hooks with square holes
  4. Thanks guys, currently working on a bigger version with a third shelf for my centre speaker and a TV bracket for my 32" LCD too.
  5. holy moly, i've been doing it 2 years now and even i wouldn't want to attempt that! I think mostly i'm not suited to delicate work, it scares me.
  6. oh my word, thanks for that tip! that will help with my gas cutting!
  7. I like it, not too many balls at all. and just read the dimensions, woah!
  8. Yeah i've been meaning to attempt it for a while but it wasn't until i moved house and decided i need a new, smaller rack that i got the drive to actually do it. I've now decided to make a better version, but this was a good prototype.
  9. i don't know about the safety of releasing it but just remember the maximum output rate for acet
  10. Knocked this up this week, it's for myself but i think i'll visit the local high end audio shop and see what they think The back bone is 30mm square and the arms/legs are 25mm square. The shelves are 40mm laminated Oak ikea worktop, 440mm square. Total height 450mm Spiked feet as a HiFi rack should have :)
  11. thanks man, i appreciate the compliment. it warms my heart to think someone might feel that way about my work, i'm just a beginner as i see it.
  12. thanks for your comments John. I will bear this in mind in future
  13. I hope i didn't come across rude, i didn't mean to :) The customer knew exactly what they wanted in this instance so that made the job a little easier. I gave them the option of spikes at the front to help contain the fire but they declined.
  14. Wood, they were burning on a bed of ash on the brick hearth. If i was into turning down work i would have suggested they fit a wood-burning stove as its more efficient. but i'm not so, i just made what they asked for :)
  15. The main bars are 22mm square, with 18mm gaps The legs are 65x8mm angle and the spikes are 16mm tapered to 10mm (side bias on taper)
  16. It is my biggest piece to date, dimensions HxWxD = 240x620x260mm Thanks!
  17. Been working on this on and off the last few months. Finally delivered it to the customer yesterday. I definitely learnt a few things doing this and was xxxx glad i bought a decent fly press last year! They had a fireback that needed a clean, so i did that and integrated it to the basket using substantial brackets:
  18. thanks guys, yeah i figured it will rust eventually, but the customer wanted it black :)
  19. I'm currently building a fire basket for someone, it's my first. I'm looking to paint it with black stove paint but apparently it is a bit soft and liable to scratching until cured (obviously it's intended for the outside of a wood stove. any ideas? or better suggestions?
  20. interesting timing, i'm also on parents farm land, currently in an existing building but i need to expand. My step-dad voiced concerns about the planning we have here (agricultural) and that i might give thought to what would happen if i invested in a decent sized dedicated building and the neighbours/planning office weren't too keen,
