  3. no i dont have a camera its not too nice anyways, it was in my "i want to make a sword" stage, but i get it now that basics come first
  4. well i do it all with had hammering no power or air or treadle hammer to help but gonna build a treadle
  5. ok i know i an not a member of the OABA, yet, but i want to apprentice or at least spend some time learning from a blacksmith i am about 2 hours east of Toronto in Norwood Ontaio is there anyone in my areathat could handle a 14 year old slowing you down and asking a ton of questions thanks for reading Josh

    Nails?

    the spark test i did showed the 6 i am gonna use are HC but i see your point i think i will weld each differant steel into a bar of its own and then weld them all together, the only "damacus" that i have used is cable damascus so i may just start with somthing simpler, i was thinking of a core of c1018 with the next layer of files (i got a ton of old ones) then a cable damascus outer peice then i will do a twist pattern thanks Josh
  8. anyone know where the whearhouse is? is there anything guarding it? anyone to help me lift anvils into a truck? lol
  9. that is what i do ihave a stump that is about 4' in diameter and 3' tall and every time i make nails one goes in the stump and every time i make a forge weld i put 1 burn mark on the side
  10. oh and as i am ending a day in the shop i weld up a peic of cable or a damascus billet
  11. ya i need to pick up my forge, right now i use a small forge that was my grandfathers farriers the inside demensions are 1'x1'x1' and it has a 10"x10"x6" fire pot i use coke, my new one is 30"wide x 40"long and has a smaller round firepoti only have like 50 nails, i think im going ot buy a pair of oc chain makers tongs soon im not so good at making tongs yet and have no way to form the bit, again i am just starting josh
  12. i think you should keep it, make the vice tomatch mabe a swage block awell ans sell it for a ton of cash to some collector to bring down his spending money for real tools lol ;)
  13. well how long have you been doing this tradition, i have only been smithing for 7 months and i only have been making nails for a month and only forge on weekends when im not in school lol and im gonna start making 6 links

    well i dont have a camera so i was thinking from bottom to top welded into billets, nails,file,saw blad,file,nails and weld the twist fold twist fold twist fold ect...
  15. i make 5 nails, then i make a wall hook, then i make 3 chain links then i do whatever i had planned
  16. i take a thick peice of either cedar or spruce bark and bury it and leave the ash dump open, it stays as coals for up to 3 hours, i have also done this with a handfull of lump charcoal

    Basicly, I found a pale full of 6" nails, not galvinized, and i was wondering if anyone has made a knife from nails, i am thinking multiple nails welded into billets and then layered with bandsaw blade peices andfile pwices welded together for damascus, just an idea for a strange pattern thanks in advance Josh

  20. not quite sword it was a 20" farriers rasp tat i made into a double edged machete/short sword josh
  21. major drool factor but i gotta b happy with my 186lb Peter wright but i do want two more 100lb and one 250lb
